Hi im looking to buy a new laptop but with so many options out there im completely lost.
Ill be using it for photo editing in photoshop, playing HD movies through my TV, and video editing in adobe premiere. Budget is 1000 or a little over it. Any suggestions? Even tips on what kind of processers/ram i should be looking at would be great...

    Sample one
look for i5 / 7 intel dual cores with radeon 5870 its sufficent enough for graphic needs. At leaast 2gb ram it doesnt make a whole lot of difference. Screen must be good as well 17" if its not a problem and resolution 1440 x 900 could be too small .

Actually the RAM is by far the most important thing to consider here when using the adobe packages. You want 4gb with room to expand upto 8 if doing heavy editing and future-proofing.
CPU is important for rendering and editing, the GPU not so much outside 3d rendering as most mid range cards are powerful enough for hardware acceleration. To be on the safe side id consider a HD 5650 or 335M, which will more than likely be overkill but at leat you can safely run what ever you like without fear of lag (and comfortably play any modern agme that takes your fancy!)
CPU the Id aim for a higer end i3 or a mid range i5 dual core. The quad core i7 are just not efficent enough at the moment and id avoid until Sandy Bridge is released next year.If not hooking up to external monitor, 17inch 1600x900 is minimum for photo editing.
The models i mentioned here would be ideal.

Yeah maybe you are right for some serious work with 3d 4gb will make a difference but 8 is just a big waste. i7 cores are by far the best running 1366 which means core i9 in few months but wouldnt invest in those in a laptop + HT . 3.2 OC easily to 4.2.
