Probably just the 18 cans (3/4 slab). Like the ones that were on sale in Tesco last week. Someone confirm this?

Yes the duty on cider is higher than beer to the deals get limited. I'm going to get a couple of slabs Thursday.

Yes but this year is different, the Budget it likely to throw a fair few €1 on to the price of a slab

I'm aiming to buy all the beer before the budget is announced, same applies for presents etc..could save a few quid and I can readily drown my sorrows once the budget is announced.

I wouldn't be so sure. It has been a bit of work to stop people going up north for all their booze costing the economy loads. If they increased the duty they probably wouldn't make all that much more money.

Anyone know if Coors Light is included in this? Does this mean one slab is €25 or is it €27.50?

Careful now. That's the type of talk that has anti drinkers and indeed publicans up in arms. ;)

Good bargain alert for those that can drink that sort of mass produced muck.

    Well done OP.

Firstly I'd never trust an anti/non drinker so their opinions dont count(wait for the onslaught, kidding people!!...maybe). :D

Second of all "mass produced muck"?!

Are you seriously telling me you never drink a pint of Guinness or Carlsberg, etc.. All you ever drink is micro brewed beers?? Thought not.

I like micro brewed beers as much as the next man there are some fantastic ones out there, but they are quite expensive and sometimes its nice to have a few cans of good old Guinness. Especially for Christmas when there'll be visitors etc...

Some of the micro brewed beers are foreign owned also so your not helping your own economy which lets face it needs all the help it can get.

^^^I wouldnt call an onslaught of people getting sh*t faced on cheap beer a benefit to our economy. :p

Its better than buying from micro brewies outside of the country.

And who says people have to go and get sh*t faced on the beer.
It doesnt go off that quick!!

And if it stops people shopping up North then its a good thing.

HB, Warsteiner, Duvel, La Chouffe, Hoegaarten, Paulaner etc do not come from Microbrewerys :)

Bud, Carlsberg, Heineken, Miller etc are all muck in terms of good beer, i.e. people who consume large volumes for effect drink them.

not a chance in hell of that happening. - the budget will be all about cutting spending and a few tax rises. Increasing beer duty just sends people back up north.

    btw

Lidl 500ml Smirnoff €9 - That €18 / litre or €12.60 per standard size bottle.

    max 6 per customer.

Actually that is not so far from the truth. I would in fact, if I'm out in a pub have a Guinness if nothing better is available and preferably from a bottle rather than nitro keg but... if someone offered me a can of Guinness, Carlsberg, Heineken etc I actually would turn them down and have water instead.

I drink for taste and taste alone. The effects of the alcohol have little to do with it so I see no reason to drink a beer I do not actually like if the sole end result is getting a drink buzz or getting drunk.

On the "Irish" subject, sure there are plenty of non Irish craft beers out there but there are plenty of actual Irish craft beers available in bottles in this country.

Not one of the beers on the pallet are Irish, and I am including Guinness because Guinness has not been an Irish company since 1997 and is now run by Diageo which is based in London.

The only actual Irish beer, owned by completely Irish companies available in Ireland are in fact Craft beer producers. The Porterhouse brewing company based in Ballycoolin being the largest of these.

Anyway there is no need to take offence, none was intended. Believe it or not, there are many people out there that do not like Craft beer. Probably because it actually tastes of something.

I am not sure if the mega breweries reduced the quality and taste of beer because that is what the majority of consumers actually want, or if they did it for economical reasons and the majority of beer drinkers these days just accept it as the norm. I can't say which occurred but the result is, the majority of drinkers will drink the beers in the bargain alert and as I said, this is in fact a bargain for them

Is it impossible to post here about a beer offer without the beer Nazi's coming in with some smart comment?

Is Bud definitly included? I saw a load of slabs in dunnes yesterday and when I asked the guys there they said the slabs were EUR34 each.

Your quite right Keithclancy. Your gold star is in the post.

The 1st set of drinks you mention are well known companies from the likes of belgium and germany. Fantastic beers but not from microbrewereys.

And for the record I didnt say they were microbrewerys.

The type of beer I was thinking about but again didnt mention would be the likes of beers from the Brewdog company. A small Scottish micro. Fantastic stuff for those of you who havent had it.

Now as for your second comment. RUBBISH. Not all people who drink the above drinks do so for the "effect" as you put it.

I can happily go to the pub and have 2 pints and read the newspaper as I enjoy a nice pint of Guinness.

I'm under no illusion that its not brewed to the German purity laws etc but I find its a nice pint to have.

So in summary read the posts made above before making silly statements and second of all stop generalising as it makes you look a fool.

Is this definitely happening? All I could see on the offers sheet was Carlsberg and Miller for €25 each.

it is 'cool' to 'appreciate the taste' of a good beer and deride the rest as trough for the masses

    you sir are a cad

    quaff quaff quaff quaff

    ;)

I like a craft beer myself and would rarely drink a bud, miller, carlsberg etc. but I don't see the need to come here with a condescending attitude. It really is a "my mickey is bigger than yours" attitude

Cheap beer hip hip I love it. Must stock up although still supping a €27.50 slab!! Greed is a terrible thing people ;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,340 CMod ✭✭✭✭Davy

This isnt an offer, Dunne family must be in the rumour mill.

NB: miller or carlsberg packs are €25 each. All other beers are still €38.

    Closed!
