If the the minimum wage is cut by 1euro,will my wage be cut automatically?
i have work the same company for7 yrs for E8.65 per hr,the company is doing well, never been busier also expanding, this will cost me E45 per week,My basic will go to E350 per week (45hr week), or is it down to the company,if it is, it will definitely be cut. like any other company, any thing to make a bigger profit even if there are doing well at moment.

You have answered the question yourself, the company would most likely reduce your wages/salary, the government only sets the minimum wage.

We have deflation as it is, so in real terms while it sounds bad won't probably effect you all that much.

Ireland needs to become competitive again so I guess that means big cuts for the fat cats and widening the tax base so everyone contributes to the government (IMF) coffers. Ninety Billion, yes BILLION is a lot of dough to pay back in any man's language!

We're all going to have to suck it up, no matter now unjust it seems. If your feeling hard done, well you know how to use your vote at the General Election. If people choose not to vote, well they should choose not to complain.

    Depends.

    You contract could say

"you are paid €8.65 per hour"
"you are paid the minimum wage of €8.65 as increased from time to time"

If either of the above, not legal to cut.

    If it says

"you are paid the statutory minimum wage as adjusted from time to time"

it may be legally possible to change. However, the cutting of wages is a difficult legal area. You won't be helped if others in your employment choose to accept it and redundancy is threatened for those who don't.

Really depends on how much the employer wants to push it and how strongly the employees work together to resist. James Connolly would be turning in his grave.

Then it isn't legal to cut and you can fight it.

Problem is it takes over a year to fight something like that and in the meantime they could make up a reason to fire you.
