Hi this no longer well speced machine, if it ever was. single core ultra low voltage processor 1.4ghz, windows vista, no dedicated graphics, still if u just want to browse the web and need some thing with good battery life this may suit but netbook cheaper and more powerful with windows 7;).

If you look around SHOPS, theres celeron laptops going for 400euro, dvdrw,2gig ram 15inch screen, 14inch is a bit small if this is your main pc for web browsing.its not a bad deal,if you want a smaller laptop.

Sorry but you are wrong here.

The Core 2 Solo range is significantly better than the atom range. Clock speed is only one of the specs to look at. In my experience core 2 solo is ~2x fast as a similar clocked atom. For the average user they are solid cpus, although it must be said a dual core ULV is prefered.

It must be said that the ULV cpu range still trumps everthing in terms of battery life. It is definately a better option that a netbook for power, screen size, specs and connectivity. For a little more this isnt a bad option

You may get the 15" Lenovo ThinkPad or IdeaPad for your father.

I saw that too but I did a bit of research on previous catalogue prices and its been that price for a long time, over a year maybe 2 years, so the technology is old and they are only reducing the price now to make it seem like a bargain, its not bad for the price, but there are better for the same price. So to answer your question it is most definitely not a bargain but it is fairly ok value.
