Folks, The sister crashed her car last week..nothing too bad but insurance company wrote it off(multiple panel damage).. Anyway they valued the car, Peugeot 206, at €3500.. minus excess €500 so €3000..

But now they are charging a €500 'scrappage charge'.. Ive never had to deal with a write off or any accident with insurance companies so no idea if this is reasonable..

I thought they would just send t off to scrap yard?? Does it really cost €500 to scrap a motor??

Please feel free to abuse me if i have my head in the clouds:D:D:D

Odd as the car is worth about 50 if you scrap it yourself (you get this money from a scrapper).
Then again I'm not surprised, insurance companies are *******...

I think it means they give you €3500-€500excess-€500scrap value, you can then sell the wreck to their nominated scrap dealer for that €500 or you keep it and fix it or you sell it to someone else for as much as you can get.

    No she had 2 options..

    €4000 - excess(500) - Scrappage charge(500) = 3000 and no car..

Or 2500 and keep the car..

Any way she took the 3000.. just thought it was a mad price charging 500 to scrap your car.. Im sure they dont dismantle ith themselves.. and since they charged the scrappage i assume the car will never make its way back on to the roads.. or will it????

Must keep an eye on the reg see if it gets taxed over the next few months!
