    Hi

Can anyone advise on this situation i find myself in with a laptop screen.

The problem started a fortnight ago.The screen was suddendly very dark although slightly readable.

There was no visible signs of a cracked screen. I sought the advice of a dell technician who comes to work to replace laptop screens etc. He said the backlight was gone and the whole screen needs to be replaced.

So i ordered the screen and fitted it but the result remains the same.

Is there a possibility that it could be the inverter or something else.

    Many Thanks

    S

Either its the wrong screen (especially if its a Dell) or its the inverter. I've found that a lot of guys who "work for Dell" don't know what they're taking about. Guys who drive forklifts in Dell's warehouse think they know about computers!!

You will laugh..its a fujitsu laptop but i asked in general.

I'm leaning towards the inverter myself.

Was thinking this from the start.

    Will google it

    Thanks for response

For the LCD BIST hold down the D key when you power the machine on. If you see colours etc the screen is ok.

Check the brightness settings in the BIOS too - sometimes they can be set to stay low.

The inverter is usually replaced with the screen these days.

Are the warehouses not gone? ,and would say the op was talking about an engineer not someone in sales or the forklift division.

Could be a loose connection from the lcd cable to the motherboard.

Yeah ive checked that also. It looks secure but then again it may be difficult to spot a tiny loose connection underneath the cable.

If it's sitting perfectly on to the motherboard then I'd go with the other suggestions of the inverter. The LCD cables will generally fray where there's a bend in the cable but for it to happen at a static point near the motherboard would be unlikely.

Ill have to order an inverter then to at least rule that out.

Pity the screen i bought didnt come with an inverter.

Is there a general rule regarding inverters.Different models require different inverter types??

I'd put my money on the inverter too tbh.

Just re-reading the OP, as it was just dark before (not broken) its almost definitely the inverter. Get a new inverter (they're not very dear) & try it with the old screen, if it works, send back the new one, or sell it on.

Well if you can get to South Dublin (Dundrum area) and you want to check PM me. I have inverters for Fujitsu laptops galore. You can stop into my shop and i'll see if that's the problem. Free of charge.
