Garbo, just wondering why you think Louise is a bad coach? I had some lessons with her last year and did not see much benefit so dont know whether to go again this year. Who in your opinion are the best pros in the Dublin Kildare area?

yeah, maybe if he said it to her face but not on an internet forum imo

anyway op,if you have any mates that are pretty low hcp'ers go to a decent practice area with them for starters.
They won't be too technical, ask them what is their thought process is when chipping/putting and you might gain some handy tips.
Also, because it's someone you know you'll be more relaxed and can try a few things you may not try with the pro.
And then just practice like f***.

Took one of the short game sessions in Carton myself. The pro on the day was named Krishna, think he's mainly based out of Hollywood Lakes. Would definitely recommend a session with him. Keeps things quite simple & I find my short game consistency has increased greatly since.

Know others who have done the short game sessions in Carton with other pros who also found it really helpful.

It's a 3 hr session that covers chipping, bunkers & putting

ive just seen her hitting balls and giving lessons in carton and in her previous base and wasnt impressed at all. shouldnt have slated her like i did but ive seen her hitting sockets while showing somebody how to chip. best pros imo are neil manchip (but very expensive) and have heard that simon byrne is very good for short game. i heard that from someone who would be very involved in coaching panels and would have seen alot of the best coaches in leinster. manchip keeps it very simple but has this nack of getting you hitting it really well without making you change too much and is a class chipper/putter

I've only met this guy in the last few months, hes been our pro for a while now.

But I'm coming across people raving about him in the club about his lessons. He does some good work with the junior golfers too who are all operating of decent low handicapps.

I think the biscuit was firmly took, after coming abck to the club for my first game a few weeks ago. I noticed my Da's game was ****ing incredible. Hitting High controlled draws with his driver, accurate scoring irons but most incredibly

Hitting consistently accurate chips, pitches and a lovely new putting stroke where he is always giving himself a chance.

Now there was a time when I was streets ahead and after we finished he told me he'd took a few lessons from Krishna. My dad used to be a 15-16 handicap golfer, but genuinelly looks like he could play off single figures, hes tumbling down and at 10 now.

I'm going to give Krishna a shout during the summer I'd say and get a few lessons

Anyone ever try Dave Pelz School in Kileen Castle for the short game?

1 Day clinics running at €195.

I think unless you have personal experience of her lesson that you have no right to post that comment on a public forum and are possibly leaving yourself open to legal action. It also makes you look a bit silly to post an opinion like that with nothing to back it up.

For all you know she could have been saying "here is why you can have a socket when you are chipping"
    - cue socket demo.

Hey Pauldoo - how much practice do you do on your short game? What exactly is the problem?

Yes - I've been to the Pelz facility in Kileen. IMO the 1 day clinic is one of the best things I ever did for my game. It has shaved at least two shots off my handicap, proabably more.

My putting and chipping has never been better. On putting, you really get an appreciation for things like solid contact, practicing to get the ball past the hole (no more putts left short - in theory;)), playing enough break (don't miss on the low side all the time), etc.

On chipping, they give you a really solid technique. Its the same technique every time but with different clubs to vary the distance. My srambling stats are now quite decent.

On bunker play, you'll lose that fear of the bunker (if you ever had it).

I still struggle with longer range pitches and distance wedges but overall it was money well spent for this particular hacker.

By the way, the 1 day clinic in Carton is also very good. Personally, I feel they teach a very safe form of the pitch and distance wedge in that clinic. IMO it will only get you so far (back of the stance, weight on the left side, etc.). Great for solid contact but very difficult to control distance. When I started playing golf again after a long break from the game, I found this course to be excellent. When I was struggling to get lower than 12/13, I went to see the guys at Pelz.

I still visit Carton for long game lessons and to use their facility - best in Ireland IMO

The problem was; i would hit my shot into the green, if i missed the green i would rarely get down in 2. It wasnt a case of duffing/thinning chips, i would just always be out of range to make the putt and never make the putt. So i went to tristan mullally in Moyvalley. he tidied up the technique, gave me some drills for chipping and putting and had me play par 18(9 attemps at up and down from around the green-try to beat your best score).

After the lesson i tried play par 18 for the first time, got 2 up and downs from a possible 9, after a couple of months i was getting between 6-9 up and downs and of 9. Had that lesson a year ago and dropped 4 shots in the summer.
