I just had the injection two weeks ago and have noticed my sex drive has dramatically reduced, i havent felt in the mood at all, but I dont want my BF to suffer so I have been going along with his desire for the sake of the relationship! However this is even difficult as I am totally dry, and it is very painful to have sex, last night it wasnt happening at all. the gates were closed so to speak!
has anyone else this experience? I've seen a lot of threads about the injection regarding weight gain and mood but noone seems to mention this side effect, is it temporary? does anyone know?

Youre thread is probably going to get closed down soon as it might be seeking medical advice (although I dont think so) but before it does..

I was on the injection for a couple years. One year I was on it I had no problems and then I took a break and when I went back on, my sex drive was gone. I mean non - existant. Just not in the humor for it ever, never really turned on. Still enjoyed sex but had no sex drive whatsoever. So naturally I went off the injection!

Consider the nuvaring instead, its a contraceptive ring, that works similar to the pill in that you still get your period but has the benefits of the injection (not affected by antibiotics, vomiting etc, and dont have to remember to take something everyday). Also, the nuva ring doesnt generally cause weight gain. Too long on the depo injection is not good for you anyway, a much higher risk of osteroperosis after a while.

Its a little odd to get used to the first couple times but I have happily used it and kept my high sex drive! ;)

In before the lock maybe but "going along with his desire for the sake of the relationship! "

Any guy worth his salt would be absolutely horrified to think he was having sex with his girlfriend and it was hurting her and her not telling him,

You need to 1. explain to your boyfriend the situation and 2. go to your gp

of course, if its painful we stop!! Im not a sadomasachist! But I do think its important for a relationship to have an active sex life, so even if not feeeling in the mood, I can enjoy sex, its that feeling of really wanting it that has dissapeared since I started the injection.

what will be: thanks for the feedback, not very uplifiting though! So Im stuck on it for at least 10 more weeks :((( How long did you stay on it the second time when you notived these side effects? A friend said sometimes its temporary (the dryness) as your body adjusts to the hormones.

I was on it for either 6 or 9 months the second time, I cant remember which. I do remember that my sex drive came back about 2 weeks after I stopped it and I was like a totally different person. I had the dryness too, which doesnt help. Youve no drive to have sex and then when you do, without a serious amount of foreplay its just uncomfortable. Its a viscous circle.

My advice to you would be to just wait out the next 10wks (not that youve any choice), invest in some lube and in 10wks time if nothings changed talk to your doc about other options. Not much else you can do im afraid :D
