So i received my laptop back from acer after repair.

Just to clear up the the repair note if some one could help.
Started hunging up when using keyboard (double typing etc), freezing under kb test (pc heck), ordering, replaced, kb. Ran recovery. Went to sysprep. Pc check kb test-passed

Whats kb test? is it hardware of software of the laptop?

Cause my main thing it came back with vista and even though its ok since its the newest updated version i still couldn't live without bits and bobs of W7. So im planning on making a backup dvd and install W7. Main problem i had was the laptop freezing all the time. If it was a software issue i dont want to put W7 on it again in case it would start freezing again.

Laptop: Acer Timeline 5810TG if it helps on Vista 32x

Sorry for the long post :)

'kb test' would be keyboard test. Sounds like there was a problem with the keyboard and it was replaced, I assume that it originally came with Vista? Had Windows 7 been working okay at any stage?

Well since i got it and i booted it up and in the first time five minutes after it started it froze on me. Couldnt stop it without doing an actual restart. Been like that on both vista and w7. Just after half a year it got to my nerves and i sent it off for repair.

Just when you mentioned i looked and the keyboard and it is brand new :)

so no answer? can a faulty keyboard cause a laptop to freeze?

i wouldn't have thought so. But I have had third party keyboard & mouse applications cause problems on a PC. In that instance, the apps were attempting to sit between the keyboard and the operating system, and effectively caused a 2-3 second delay from hitting a key, to seeing the on-screen result. Do you know if you had any such crapware running on the pc before? Either way, you got a new keyboard. Go ahead and install Win7.

Yes they can, Saitek keyboards in particular in the past have been troublesome in this regards. They're more a gaming keyboard than anything to do with laptops but anyway yes is the short answer.

Is the laptop still crashing on you after it's come back repaired or are you just worried it might do so again in the future ?
Either way though, Windows 7 will run better on it than Vista. Vista is a load of rubbish in fairness.

Well no hasn't crashes yet. Vista is ok but just have to get some DVDs to make a backup of OEM vista cause after w7 the ghost partition is deleted and no way going back. Ill do it this week anyway

So spent a week with vista and had no freezes. So today installed windows 7 and all OK so far. So guess the keyboard did cause the problem.
