Hays Recruitment - Cork City

Has anyone registered with Hays in Cork City and if so, are they good (do they listen to you, do they get jobs)? They have an Open Day for temporary candidates every Tuesday, I'm going back to work after a long time off, and wondering if I can get some temporary work between now and xmas, I don't know what the market is like. What are these recruitment open days normally like - if anyone has any information on Hays, or recruitment open days or what the market is like for temps, I would be very glad to hear your views. Thanks.

TBH - I feel deeply cynical about Hays. I had a bad experience with them back in London. But - when I moved here, I thought "I'll give them another shot".

They've had my CV for two years now. Asked them about the 'temps' open day they had. Went in for another meeting which rehashed everything I've done, and was told they had a lot of part-time/temp jobs.

Since then, I've seen two jobs for which I am well qualified and have the relevant experience. For some reason, I wasn't put foward for them.

FYI - I've not seen very many part-time/temp jobs. I suspect this might be a fishing expedition....

That's what I've had with them. You may be a little luckier!:)

I don't think they are any better or worse than any other agency. Cork is small with a finite number of jobs and a huge number of agencies! I registered with 3 or 4 and never heard a peep beyond the usual 'wow you're just what our clients are looking for' guff during the initial registration/interview

Thanks for the feedback. I haven't gone into Hays yet. I'm returning to the market after 2.5 years off (not by choice) and I am looking for temporary (before xmas) full time and will be looking for permanent full time after xmas. I've applied for lots of jobs where there has been so much competition every time and have just done a course and trying to wean myself back to the workplace before the new year, it's very hard to get motivated. I hate dealing with agencies because they promise you they know exactly what you want and they'll get it and you don't hear from them for ages. Would much prefer not to have to deal with them, but it seems like my only option now.
