    Hi,
I started taking the pill in Sept and I was told to come back in 3 months to get a repeat prescription, but when I went to collect my 3 months prescription the first time, the pharmacist handed me back the prescription. Does this mean there are still some months left on it to collect or will I have to go back and get another prescription? Thanks!

You'd be better off asking the pharmacist what applies to your own prescription, definitely before you need some more. I've been offered a repeat prescription back or they offered to keep it there - I think it depends on whether you use or will use the same pharmacy for all repeats...

If you have a read of the prescription (if you can make it out that is!) -
3/12 means it's a three month repeat, or 6/12 means its a 6 month one etc, its usually written down near the bottom somewhere.
But if you can't make it out, just pop into any pharmacy and they'll set ya straight

Did you just buy one month of the prescription or did you buy the whole three months? The pharmacist usually stamps the prescription and writes on it "1/12 dispd" if you got one month dispensed, but if you got 3 months, it'd say "3/12 dispd". So, if you got the whole three months, it'll say on it and maybe he/she just popped the prescription back into the bag - doesn't mean you don't need a new one though.

My one usually says 21 tablets repeat x3, and my pharmacist (Boots) gives me 4 months out of it, I was told the first time I bought a third month that I was being given back my prescription because it doesn't mean "Pill times 3", it means "One month of the pill, then repeat 3 more times". If I were you I'd check with your pharmacist to make sure, better safe than sorry and if you do need to go to your doctor you might not get a chance to go in time to get a fresh prescription if you leave it too late.

Just to add if its your first time on the pill, its important to go back to your doctor to get a check up after i think either 3 months or 6 months, just to get your blood pressure checked and what not, this is probably why you were told to come back after 3 months, probably best to ring/see your doctor to check just in case :)
