Warranty on iPhone headphones

The headphones that came with my 3GS have suddenly lost their volume in that last few days. I have tested it with other headphones and its very obvious there is a dramatic drop in the sound they can produce. Its not volume limiting etc I have checked all that.

They are only about 2 months old so I am correct in thinking I can have them replaced for free under warranty, they are the headphones that came with the phone. If so can I just go into an apple store and ask for a new set of do I need to send away for them?

Before people suggest that I should buy 3rd party headphones for whatever reason, I am perfectly happy with the apple ones when working correctly and the remote is very handy.

ya can buy sony, jvc etc headphones that have the inline remote for the ipod
to get them replaced i'm sure ya will need to provide proof of purchase if ya go to an apple store

Does the one year warranty on the iPhone not cover the headphones also, I though I read somewhere that everything in the box is covered by the warranty? The phone was not bought in an apple store it came from Vodafone, but I was under the impression that apple are responsible for the warranty not vodafone.

I would rather replace them for free if possible, I may invest in headphones again but for now Id rather just get the original ones replaced.

My headphones stopped working in one ear a few months ago.
I went to the apple website and did some drop-down menu troubleshooting and they sent a courier with replacement headphones and a bag which they picked up the next day. They held 20 euro or thereabouts on my card until they got the old ones back but it was painless and I was seriously impressed with the service...

Apple give 90 days warranty on all accessories sold seperately to phones, but they are not covered by the phone's warranty. I reckon they have a 90 day on their own bat even though they're in the same box.

At the end of the day your contract is with the retailer, if you haven't broken them, then return them if they've stopped working within a reasonable amount of time (the warranty time is probably the best judge of "resonable". You'll be entitled to a full refund, repair or replacement.

As an aside Apple headphones that come with the phone are crap. Get the in ear ones, at €79 theyre pricey but theyre miles, miles better.

I didnt. Just input the serial (or whatever) into the box on that link and they tell you if youre covered.

The headphones are covered by warranty. Call up Apple direct and they will send them out to you, possibly even before you return your faulty ones. You should be able to get this done at an Apple authorised reseller like Compu B too, but they will have to send them off before they give you a new pair i'd say.

The phone was a present so don't have proof. But surely the IMEI, serial number etc is proof enough.

Thanks for the reply's all, I should be able to sort it now hopefully!

Yeah I love these headphones. Think I saw them in HMV for €69 a while back, not sure if they can still be had for that price.

I entered my serial number and its confirms I'm covered so I will just go down the online route rather than visit the store.
