    Hi lads

Just wondering do revenue do this themselves or is it the SIMI? If it is not the SIMI do they have an input into it? Doing a project on the industry and cannot find any details on this. Thanks for any answers

The crowd running the NCT assess the car and place a value on it these days.

They claim to use the ROS figures as the base figure though.

I have no refference for this at all and I'm not too sure where I heard it but I thought it was SIMI who provided them with the current OMSP's of cars - well provided them with the figures anyways. Again this is just conjecture but would explain the higher omsp's which are normally provided as it's not really in their interests for people to buy abroad.

Neither. The distributors (manufacturers' agent in Ireland) set the OMSP of new cars. The OMSP is a percentage of the recommend retail price, but the distributor can set this percentage (typically 90-92%). The figure is supposed to be the typical cash price (after discount) of the car for VRT calculation purposes but I don't think there's any control / accountability over this :)

But what about second hand cars, I doubt the distributors would have much input then. Don't the SIMI who supply the price the 2nd hand market is buying at (or rather the price they would like the market to buy at ;)) to Revenue as the OMSP?
