    Hey guys,

    1) External Debt (Edit: I actually found that easy enough on the cso
    http://www.cso.ie/releasespublications/documents/economy/current/externaldebt.pdf

    2) The loan book of Irish banks (domestic ones would be nice as well). Can this be figured out from the External debt? Or is the Central Bank my best bet.

    3) The exposure of Irish banks to Forieng banks - I believe it is unusally high (85% plus etc) but again looking for the source.

    Kidn regards

On a similar figure hunt myself

    External Debt (another source): http://ddp-ext.worldbank.org/ext/ddpreports/ViewSharedReport?REPORT_ID=13583&REQUEST_TYPE=VIEWADVANCED&DIMENSIONS=33

For the last 2 you might be able to find some useful info on http://www.bis.org/statistics/bankstats.htm not sure exactly where.

    Thanks pal.

Finding the BIS statistics section a bit bewildering at the moment.

I know the IT on Friday reported the exposure to foreign banks at €535bn and they have their source as BIS but finding it difficult to pindown. (They did a currency conversion themselves).

Also, if the foreign exposure is €535, then I want to know what it is overall.

I'm trying to find the details of the irish figures for this link that Time_Magazine posted in another thread. The best I can find so far is on http://www.bis.org/statistics/provbstats.pdf#page=7 page 44 where there's a figure for ireland of $867bn, but that's a 2008 figure, so unless the nytimes looked at the wrong column...? Otherwise it's just a coincidence and I have't found the right place. But it seems to be $700 to $800bn which is in around the €530bn figure you had.

Annual reports for all the banks might give total outstanding debt figures.

Well the figure of €535bn in the Times on riday is what the banks owe to to other banks alone as far as I can see, whereas that article you quoted to seems to include what the banks owe to Governments etc as well.

EDIT: Also, the figures on the NYTimes article do say as of Dec 31st (2009 I guess).
Figures for June 2010 seem to be available in most categories..
