2011 Election Campaign Points

As it seems inevitable now that we will have an election early in the New Year I thought I'd throw up a thread to see if there is some consensus on what we require from our new elected officials.

I want to clarify that I am not a political expert but I am fed up with politics as I understand it in this country so keep it simple for me.

Anyway, as we now have the IMF and the EU in controlling our ecconomy there should be no reason for any political party to campaign on any such issues. The focus now should in my opinion be on setting up a structure that will be able to deal with the country when we eventaully emerge from this situation.

What I want is political reform, I want an end to doorstep politics in this country. Our senior elected officials should not be dealing with Marys cat stuck up a tree or Joe's medical card not arriving or someones position on some waiting list.

It would appear that now is the ideal time to clean up politics and restructure ourselves to prevent any future catastrophe like the current one.

So do you think any party will start a campaign based on political reform and restructuring of our Government procedures and election policies?

Will any seek to create an election campaign that serves the needs of the country first and foremost and establising Ireland as a country of integrity and transparency?

Has any of them got the bottle to leave doorstep and church yard politics behind and create a system that actually gets talented people in to actually run the country for a change?

Will any break the links to local levels and leave local issues to the local authorities?

Any party that is putting forward such reform will get my vote.
