New website, quotations wanted!

Im considering launching a new web based company next year in the logistics industry. Not specific to any country but providing a global service.

I'd like to get the whole thing quoted up - logo design, web design, hosting, SEO systems - 1 stop shop for the whole web business. The site itself would be quite simple and just information based no technical functions.

I was looking at a budget of 2000 - 3000 euro all in, with ongoing fees for the SEO. If your interested in quoting drop me a PM.

i know 3k is a lot of money, but from what your saying it doesnt seem a lot for the job to tell you the truth

well not if you want it done right, and with proper support etc

I'd be inclined to agree with that, you see no web developer with any nous about being a designer will take all that on for only 3000, especially due to the hosting which generally means that if the site ever has anyone downtime its a phonecall at 3am in the morning to get it sorted, when in essence its so much easier to sort out via a web hosting service online which is much more qualified than any of us would be.

I'd be interested in it myself no doubt, but the hosting would put me off.

Seems to me that people constantly overestimate the cost of jobs like this.
I'd be interested in a project like this and would definitely price it at the lower end of your budget.
PM me if you would like to discuss it further.

Paddy, on the hosting I just want someone to look after it, not necessarily that you yourself have to host it.

adeadly send me your email address and Ill let you know what I want.

'it doesnt seem a lot for the job to tell you the truth'

I think that very much couched in 'protectionism'.

I know I keep banging on about them - but try level the playing surface first; I'd get a quote from Elance, Odesk or peopleperhour (and a myriad of other sites out there). See what the consensus is on price and see what the citizens of some of our highly educated and lower cost jurisdictions worldwide would be prepared to offer.

You should be able to get this project completed for about 1.5 - 2k. Having seen your posts you should be able to handle the content yourself. So i'd recommend a joomla or wordpress platform. I definitely woudnt be asking the developer to do your seo beyond adding in a few plug ins. I've yet to see a top notch SEO guy who sells websites.

I assumed you posted 3k and paddy was correcting you!

30000 really is closer to the mark.

In my experience the hourly rate varies between 70 and 100. Depending on the size and number of distinct page styles, a designer will easily (EASILY) spend 2 weeks of full days on it. Development usually requires 1.5 times as long as design. Then add in all the time in meetings and on admin. Then add in the after deployment hacking.

This isn't me saying how I'd like it to be or how I think it should, this is me telling you what I've observed from working in web design/development agencies.

It mightn't be nice, but 30k would be cheap from an agency. I know of relatively small sites who's price tag came out well in excess of 100k! And I'm talking about basically static sites. You are talking about logistics. That's got to imply a whole lot of stuff going on on the back-end (double the development time).

3k really really won't go far I'm afraid so don't expect much. You could get something from India for that probably (use elance.com etc.) but the quality will be disgraceful.

I have been reading a lot in the business forum and this thread. I must say that some of the comments in this thread are totally absurd. €100 000 for a website? Even a very complicated website with a lot of bells and whistles does not even come close.

Have you even read his post? He wants an information based website. Do you have any experience at all with web design or anything related to it? Jesus Christ.

Dude it wasn't a quote. It was a statement of a fact that I have observed during my 4 years of agency work. I assure you there is no fabrication (wtf would I lie?) and I also assure you that the specific website I am thinking of, recently launched, was actually very basic, albeit graphic design heavy. And to hammer home the fact, it was well in excess of 100k.

As I made clear, these are agency rates, not some guy sitting in his bedroom doing it all himself. Make a few phone calls and enquire about day rates if you don't believe me.

And by the way, have you ever met a client? Our OP may think it's "simple and just information" but if you're observant you'll note two key things to be ware of. "Logistics" and "based". He wants an information based logistics website ... That could be and probably is anything!

It'd be a reckless graphic designer cum information architect cum user experience expert cum customer manager cum front-end developer cum back-end developer cum system admin cum marketeer who'd commit to that for 3k, even in cash!

Times apparently being tough, 3k could get him 1 months work by an experienced but desperate developer. 1 man month is not sufficient time to gather requirements, visualise and implement a site, nevermind the rest of it.

One of myfriends has been saying the above to me for years pietromas. He's a graphic designer worked for big design companies. Would always be telling me how what he was doing for me would cost me 15K, but he would reluctantly do it for 500 euro.
I could have paid 15K to his company, and they would have given the job to him, but I would have gotten the same result.

By the way like I said the site is info based. Its not a parcel delivery site needing cms etc

I'm afraid the pietromas comment above is right.

Logistics: thats moving stuff around isn't it? so does the op need some sort of tracking software installed? is the tracking application compatible with the cms.

And its international so that is into translation into multiple languages or at least a cms that can handle that sort of thing. who is going to project manage the translation process?

now maybe the op is running a parcel service or is an agent for a larger company then might only need a couple of pages with a payment page
but you might be talking custom apps which again might take time.

long story short you would need to find a company with a multidicipline team (designers, developers etc) to do that sort of thing.

Don't get me wrong you might get a talented individual that can do it all but I would be asking for recommendations of such an individual and not looking for quotes.

basically people need a bit more info before thay start commiting themselves to a 3 grand budget.

    This is true.

To further inform your decision, if an agency is charging 100 per man hour, the graphic designers will probably be grossing 12 and the developers around 20.

As an experienced webapp developer, I sell my services for the bargain price of 25 per hour for contracts. That really is a competitive price because if you look at the jobs boards you'll see contractor day rates go from 300-700 per day.

If you just need a Wordpress skin or something you'll get it done for 3k in Ireland, else that budget will drive you abroad and getting it done remotely is fraught with difficulties.

Good luck though. Don't be disheartened, just reevaluate maybe.
