    Hi there,
Just wondering what the best quality headphones you can get that are good value for money.I am willing to spend in the range of 80-120ish if they are highly recommended. I have searched countless forums and websites to find the best pair, but thought I would put up a new thread to really get the best advice.

Any recommendations. I much prefer muffs to buds, just to keep that in mind.

    Cheers in advance,
    Barneslow

well in terms of DJing, I'd say a lot of people will back the Sennheiser HD250 model. I don't have them but I hear good things about them.

or another pair for your price range could be these ones...

Considering some DT990PROs for in my room. Anyone have an opinions. The net is very positive about them.

In that price range there are none. Ultrasone or Dr Dre Beats are the best out there.

    Sennheiser HD 25 or stfu.

They are bloody good, really light, durable - unfortunately bloody expensive too and don't suit everyone as the cups are pretty small.

The 25SP version is only 90 euro though if you can stick the cups swiveling round - same drivers as the 25's for 80 euro less.
Dr Dre Beats are the best out there.

Think someone has got bitten by the marketing bug! .. active sound isolation is great on the bus or plane, but re-processes the sound before hitting you ears... overpriced heavily marketed muck, & heavy as hell IMHO!
In that price range there are none

The sony MDR-v6 or 7256 (same headphone!) which I posted above ARE in that pricerange and DO sound a hullofalot better than the 'beats' - have yet to see any Engineer (or DJ even for that matter) using Dre's.

    Frequency responce Sony v6 = 10 Hz - 25.000khz
    Frequency responce Dre = 5 Hz - 30.000khz

Yes beats are louder (marginally) and whack out more Bass from a "flat" source, which essentially means not flat LOL

The ultrasone on the otherhand are ACTUALLY amazing headphones and dont deserve to be mentioned in the same sentance as the dre's .. just damn pricey

Pleasurable listening, and really comfortable, little less harsh on on the ears than the Sony's (which have almost 'too good' a FR On the top end!)

Also check out some of the AKG's

Ha ha ha. No they're not, they're just the most expensive.

    Still laughing at this.

i wouldn't go as far as laughing, but i do have to say the same thing very nearly happened to me.
beats are marketed very well, but are incredibly overpriced. they look nice and sound decent. but for the price, they are nowhere near worth it in my opinion.
after talking to a number of dj's and the like, i purchased the sennheiser hd 25s and they're most definitely the best thing i've ever bought. brilliant sound quality. levels are perfect. nice amount of bass etc. again, pricey..but definitely worth it this time.
you just need to look at pictures online of dj's, and 75% of them are using sennheiser 25s. again, not saying to do it just because everyone else is...but this time, it's the case because they are some of the best out there.

I really don't like the 25s. I've used them loads of times because most DJs have them, but I just don't like how the feel at all on your head. Much prefer closed headphones.

Really? All personal choice I suppose. I had a pair of closed sennheisers and te quality was decent too, so I've got to say that I'm pretty pleased with the quality.

Ah nothing to do with quality, the sound is great, but they just don't feel right for me. They feel like they're always going to fall off or something.

Did yours have the split head band? That can make a bit of a difference. No problem of falling off with me because of it.

    Shying away from the big boys who have all been mentioned like Sony/ Sennheiser/ Bose, these are probably the best best headphones I've ever listened to music on. Perfection in my opinion;

    The Audio Technica ES7's.

They look boss too, get them and I guarantee you won't regret the purchase. You can get them for around 100 if you find the right place. Can't speak highly enough of them, I'll be purchasing them soon. Also, if you do get them, don't worry if they are initially sounding a big unimpressive, after a while the sounds will open up and you'll understand my praise. :P

actually used those audio technica ones before. was very impressed with them. they had a good aul wack out of them which is rare for headphones (i mean wack in relation to the transients).

Yeah I tried a few sets of Audio Technica before at a consumer electronics show, very impressed with them.

Speaking of the sound opening up/running in of headphones etc, the Sennheiser HD650s I got a few weeks back are really getting better it seems by the day - the sound quality is unreal... just for listening though, not suitable for DJing.

Say someone didn't want to get HD25s, because they'd like something bigger and chunkier, what would you recommend them? I think the reason I haven't gotten better headphones yet is that every thread I've seen on headphones only recommends the HD25s, and I don't like 'em.

I'm wondering this too. Getting a pair after Christmas and the HD25s feel too loose.

Very tempted to go for these. They look absolutely beautiful, and people are saying they sound even better than the HD25s. They're also designed by DJs specifically for DJs, and the cups can pivot, so they look like they'd fit a lot better than the HD25s.

Looking for a pair of <100 euro headphones that pretty decent as a present for someone. They don't have to be amazing quality or anything, just better than your average pair.

Any suggestions? I'd like to pick them up in a shop too if possible.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,245 ✭✭✭old gregg

Out of interest, what are folks thoughts on KAM headphones?

I don't DJ but have a pair of the KHP1500 Pro phones for ocasional live monitoring just for levels and they seem ok for my non too pressing needs.

    http://www.kam.co.uk/index.php?action=product&product_id=69
    just curious.

Also, thinking about picking up some decent studio monitoring Sennheiser Headphones the next time I'm in Berlin and wondering if any of the brothers have done likewise and are they any cheaper in the fatherland?

I've a pair of Sennheiser 205s, about €50 or so in town, cheaper online, and I like them a lot. One of the best cheap headphones I think.

    +1

I wear these most days around college. Little light on some low freqs but for €40(what I paid in HMV) they're a steal.
