    What do people think of the standard of refs in their area?

    In general they are ok. Some are crap but then it usually balances out. Your just unlucky if you get to **** refs for a game. End of the day a ref calls what he/she sees, so its down to the standard of the players that counts more..

    some are solid but so many poor refs, the ref training in totally inadequate.

    i think the assessors have to do a lot more. i ref myself and would consider myself one of the better ones in my area, but the guy that asseses us is brutal when he refs himself, and he is supposed to turn up and watch me and tell me where i can approve? joke. i cant take advice off someone who when i ref with him he makes the 2 of us look awful

    Yea, if you compare to how referees are trained in the US its awful over here.

    Couple of things I find;

    -Vast majority of ref will not talk to players or coaches, they become very defensive.
    -Probably 99% of all referees have never played a high level of basketball.

    To the guys point above, yea Ive seen an assessor of referees at some games. Unfortunately from my limited sample is he just does womens games which is surely a cope out since the game is slower.
