PS3 - what game?

I will be buying a ps3 bundle in the next week or so. It includes 2 (new) games with it so now I'm trying to decide what to get. Having recently started playing assassins creed II, brotherhood is a definite.

I was going to get the new fifa but ended up buying last years PES as that's what my brother has and it means I can play him online(he lives in Canada so it's great to be able to do that!)

Then I was going to wait and get GT5 with it, but having borrowed prologue I'm just not getting into it that much. I probably won't be buying another new game for a while so if possible I want something I can play online and won't get bored of quickly...any suggestions?

I was about to make pretty much the exact same post.

If you liked AC2, I think you'll love Brotherhood. Improves on a lot of the features in AC2 and adds a whole bunch of new stuff. Fantastic game. And the multiplayer is meant to be great too.

    yeah, brotherhood is a definite!

But I'm trying to figure out what other game to get with the bundle. I may rethink GT5, I'll wait till there are proper reviews over the next few days. I've borrowed red dead so probably won't buy that but just wondering if there is other games that are worth looking at.

As for street fighter, I wouldn't play it much on one player so wouldn't get the use out of it. Same would apply to fight night etc...

    Uncharted 2 is essential.

    Red Dead Redemption

EDIT - just seen you say you won't get that. I don't think you can go far wrong with GT5. I'm not a racing fan but I'm super-excited about it. It has no excuses for not being the best game of its genre ever.

Gran Turismo is the most turgid racing series in history.

    6 cars, no balance/learning curve, **** handling.

Seems like AC:Brotherhood and Fifa are your best bets. There's plenty of gameplay in them to do you for a long time.

And, as said above, Uncharted 2 is a must. You should be able to get it relatively cheap now.

    Depends what you like

Shooters COD4/MW2, Medal of Honor, Mag.

    Racers : GT5, Grid, F1

Sports : Fifa, Pro evo 2011

    action : Uncharted 2, enslaved

RPG : Fallout 3, Fallout new vegas

If you are getting the PS Move : Tumble, Resi evil 5,, Ruse.

thanks lads. short list is down to GT5, uncharted 2 and fallout new vegas. I have fallout 3 here so I might play that for a bit and see what its like...I'll see what the early reviews of GT5 are like and then decide

Fallout 3 is very similar to fallout NV so i would say if you are only starting F3 get GT 5 or uncharted 2 as you still have 60-70 hours of Fallout ahead of you.

Assassins Creed Brotherhood, and God of War 3.

For me, two of the many must-haves

A very good game, but one that I'd view as more of a rental tbh... Finished it in a couple of days and felt no desire to play through it again after that

All the rest of the games above look great - but personally found Fallout to just be too "brown" to be interesting, found it v difficult to see any features and after a while just got bored with it.
Instead of Fallout - would suggest you get Oblivion GOTY edition - yes it is a bit samey but I definitely enjoyed exploring all the side-quests.

Also, it's not new but there are very few games on the PS3 better than Metal Gear Solid 4.

Oblivion is awesome, Dragon age too for RPG's. I thought the first half of the Fall Out experience was excellent, then it got real real "brown" and samey.

GT5 prologue was pants and doesn't represent the GT series at all imo. If you like car sims get it!!

Pro Evo/Fifa are essentials if you're into footy. Pro Evo does it for me still!

Demon's Souls doesn't fk around. Tough at first, but easily one of the best games ever made.

    Hi guys!

My bf has moved to america and i want to buy him the playstation3 for xmas.. but which one is the best? 60 or 80 or would u suggest anything urselves?? would i be wise to buy online in america and get it delivered to him or buy it in ireland and post it over...i've no clue of th playstation but would appreciate any advice!!
    Thanks
PS any reviews on call of duty x cops to get him and can the irish version be used in an american playstation? See told ya i was clueless haha

The games are multi-regional so any game bought anywhere should run on any PS3. But BluRays are region-specific so if he wants to watch films he'll struggle with a European PS3 in America.

If he's not coming back any time soon then I'd recommend getting an American one. I think he'd need to get a power converter to run it over there otherwise plus if something goes wong he doesn't have to travel thousands of miles to take it back.

I'm sure it'll be much cheaper to buy one over there too, so long as you can find an American retailer who will take an Irish card and ship to America.

Uncharted 2 was one of the best games I've ever played and justifies the purchase of the PS3 alone. Which is exactly what I did :D

Heavy Rain is also excellent. Apart from these, 95% of other greats can be found on the xbox also.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,207 ✭✭✭longhalloween

Are blurays region specific?? I was under the impression they were'nt.

Games-wise, AC:brotherhood is a must !BUT! without the prequels it could be a bit confusing. That said they're both cheap now.

Uncharted 2, Heavy Rain, God of War 3 are also great options.

There's also a few box sets out now. God of War 1&2 are remastered for PS3, Sly Racoon too, and Shadow of the Colossus and Ico are coming out next Feb, so if you like the classics you'll be well looked after.
Im not really into sport or racing, so I cant recommend them.

Have a look through the online store. there's a few gems.

It's a fair point. BluRays can be region locked. It depends on the studio.

Rachet and clank or littlebigplanet if you love platformers
Gt5 if you love racing games
God of war 3 hack n slash
Killzone 2 if you love Fps

    take your pick :P
