Apparently he did an interview on Sky before today's game and must have said something about a Steelers game in Dublin. I missed the interview but just heard Nick and Kevin discussing emails about it. There's also a thread on the NFLUK forum about it.

So what exactly did he say? Was it a serious comment or just a 'one day we will play....' off the cuff kind of thing?

It was an interview he did on July 4th with Sky. They showed part with his son there last week. But he said he would like to see the Steelers play here.

From what they all said, if there ever is a regular season game in Croke Park the Steelers will almost certainly be the home team.

Given that all teams have to give up a home fixture over about a 20 year period it is logical that Rooney would want a game in Dublin while he's the American Ambassador here.
The plan if the collective bargaining agreement goes through would be for 2 games in Wembley in the next year or two. Next year might be out of the question as the agreement might take a few months and they normally announce the fixture before the Superbowl.

After the first season where they have two games in Wembley the next target has to be Germany first as they invested so much in NFL Europe.

However if the new agreement takes a few months to do, no owners with the exception of Rooney might be willing to give up a home game without months to prepare. The poor guy has to settle for watching Steelers games on Gamepass and we all know how bad that can be!!

Worst come to the worst you'll have to settle for seeing Notre Dame play Army in the Aviva in 2012. They've a good freshman QB and if coach Kelly can get them going they could be a very good team by then.
