sound gone suddenly

Hi, I've a dell inspiron, The sound was working perfectly last night but is completely gone today. Its not on mute. I went into settings and sound and everything looks normal. This has never happened before. Any advice? Thanks

This happened on my inspiron too. As far as I remember I went into properties for the speakers and changed device usage to enabled. The laptop had turned this off itself. weird.
