    Hey,

    Just after reading on another thread about Martyrs.

    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1029234/

    Saw this and thought it was interesting but I was thinking of another movie I saw that I could have sworn was called Martyr (without the s).

    It was about this group who kidnapped women and tortured them to see the moment they achieved "Martyrdom". Fairly disturbing film. Please tell me I didn't dream up this up !!

    Anyone ?

    P.S. If i did dream it up Martyr (TM) (C) --->ME. All rights reserved.

    Edit: Ok same film. My bad

    ***Spoiler heavy***

    This reminds me so much about an 'original idea' i had circa 1998. I had to submit a short radio play for a class assignment. My piece was a sci-fi about a man who visits Mars and specifically the face on Mars. He finds a cavern buried underneath the face and enters it to find some advanced alien technology. The big twist, (shock horror) is that the technology is manmade, implying that after a freak accident which left Mars uninhabitable, the Martians left and crashed to Earth and (in a convolued way) re-evolved from there. We are the ancestors of the Martians! I got a distinction for my assignment, was quite happy and forgot all about it.

    Two years later, ‘Mission to Mars’ arrives on the big-screen. Imagine my disgust as I saw a virtually identical plot unfold in front of me. I was very angry, literally shaking my fist at the screen. How could Brian De Palma rip me off?! But it made some sense, De Palma ripped off Hitchcock all the time! Mission to Mars was also an awful film, which I reckoned I could have done better! I told my story in ten minutes flat!

    Completely irate, I returned to the lecture and told him what happened. He just looked at me agog for making wild accusations that “De Palma ripped me off”. After my rant the lecture smiled, wrote down a list (sadly I’ve forgotten most of it);
    • Some Arthur C Clark novel
    • Various Twilight Zone episodes
    • Both versions of ‘Quatermass and the Pit’
    • A few Doctor Who episodes ('Earthshock' comes to mind)

    There must have been a dozen other titles on that list, but I started to check them out over the internet. And what was the big twist this time? Every single one of the titles had a similar or near identical story! I have never been so embarrassed in my whole life! :o
