my mother has a merc c320 cdi automatic '03 but there what can only be described as a knocking noise coming from the front drivers side somewhere and we dont know what it is....it can only be heard driving on an uneven surface, driving on the motorway it is perfect, no noise....

Now the car passed the NCT last saturday no bother so obviously they spotted nothing and the 2 front bearings where replaced prior to testing and the mechanic couldn't find where the noise was coming from.....

Any one any ideas to as what the noise might be????

Bushings probably. The parking brake cable can apparently rub against the propshaft, causing knocking. Could be an engine mount too.

    What bearings were replaced?

I would imagine that the anti-roll bar bushings are worn.
