Virtualbox ( a totally different product to VMware ) comes in two flavours

the totally free one, (which in Ubuntu you install from the built in software centres,) which has NO pass through USB support

the other version has some closed source and so it has to be downloaded from www.virtualbox.org (again totally free) but it does offer a USB port to the guest OS, by the simple expedient of hijacking one of the Host's USB ports

at a guess VMware is doing something similar - you could try a different USB port but on older versions of windows 3G dongles tended to like the port they were first seen on

or it could be driver conflicts

yeah i gathered VMWare was doing that, i tried all the usb ports and nothing. So i uninstalled it and it worked...well it got me past that hurdle and on to the next.

Hi, I'm running Windows 7 for the last year trouble free until yesterday when the 2 USB devices that have worked fine all year won't work anymore. One is a Key-fob mini cam and the other is a Garmin Edge 305. I've tested the ports which are fine but windows is telling me that it cannot find the drivers.
As I said, these were all working fine and they are actually charging from the USB ports but thats it. I uninstalled and reinstalled the Garmin and also ran windows update but with no success.
Has anyone come across this before?
