Teeth Cleaning

I haven't been to a dentist in a few years. The last time I went for a routine check up it ended up costing me nearly 1.5k and lots of regrets (financially and over the work done) so I have been using the 'if it's not broke don't fix it' approach.

However I do feel like my teeth need a good clean as they still feel rough after brushing. Should I be looking for a dentist who does a 'scale and polish' or one that does the sonic cleaning thingy or a combination of both? Can/Would a dentist still do this or does it have to be a separate hygienist (and possibly a separate cost as they may not see me without dentist having done a check up)?

Any rough idea of cost of cleaning?

    Any help gratefully appreciated.

most dentists have ultrasonic scalers some guys just use the hand scalers.'scrapers'

standard scale/polish from 40 for most people. if you've severe gum disease you night need some local which would take longer and cost a bit more too.
