This just about sums up this pathetic excuse for a "government" for me.
    http://newswhip.ie/national-2/god-help-us-says-o-cuiv

“I believe over the next three weeks the most important three things we have to do are the budget, the four year plan, and bring stability to our whole fiscal situation,” the minister for social protection told Highland radio.

“And try and pray that this is the end, yes, prayer is very powerful.”

    This makes my blood boil.
    What an imbecile.

See my signature, quoting JFK - no man MADE problem is beyond man.
You clearly cannot deal with the problem, so Get out of the way and let somebody else try.

Who does he want us to Pray to? If he has a line on a new God who intervenes when countries are in financial crisis then he should be more specific.

I hate repeating myself, said this in other posts, - but this to me is proof that FF and Catholicism are a mental illness that has ruined Ireland.

O Cuiv would rate as the most arrogant and political of them all. He embarked on a process of "rationalisation" of his former Departments (DCRGA) programmes which delayed the rollout of the (mainly EU Funded) Rural Development Programme by about 3 years, drove it back to a period when there isn't the matching funding at Govt level here to be able to run it efficiently and maximise the drawdown from the EU and consequently the benefit to Ireland and secondly, delayed it so that there is no loan funding from Banks for the private project promoters the programme badly needs.

To compound this, his restructuring of the agencies involved has resulted in a top heavy management structure in each of these companies costing much more than before his ill thought out process. Moreover, decisions were made on the basis of party politics. Pathetic is not strong enough by a long shot. This "imbecile" on his own, has cost us many, many millions of Euro.

IMO O Cuiv would typify all that is wrong with the political system in Ireland. The sooner he and his ilk go, the better. It just shows how things work, when Cowen turned a blind eye to his disasterous performance in DCRGA and "promoted" him to the Dept of Social protection. It wasn't as though O Cuivs performance, or lack thereof, wasn't made known to Cowen.

I am not anti religion but talk of "praying" our way out of this mess just shows the morons that we have leading us! All of FF should be tied under a bulls tail and sh!t to death!

Prayers.....for **** sake....they didn't work in the concentration camps in WWII and they haven't worked for the tens of millions suffering and dying in the continent of africa...so why would they suddenly work now that Ireland is going down the tubes. Prayers me arse, O Cuiv is one I guy I will be particularly glad to see the back of, he's been behind plenty of moronic initiatives so its no surprise to see him spout this daft nonsense.

I disagree, Catholicism is a positive social force and an adhesive that ties communities together.

I wont change your opinion on Catholicism, and you won't change mine.

Can we however agree that FF are a parasite?

What about his recent comment in relation to being appointed to the Donegal by-election.
Along the lines of "some people want to remove FF, the GAA and the Catholic Church from Irish life"

Seems O'Cuiv really does think he is DeValera returned!

I hope this comment gets airtime on TV and radio. The whole country need to hear a Minister and senior FF personality advising us to pray.

Lets all pray for the end of FF after the soon to happen general election.

Surely there are no property gods left to pray to!?!

Well except for the holy ghost of ghost estates......

Unfortunately, I think a lot of those who would be responsible for unleashing this fool on us in the past (by electing him!) will not be turned off by talk of prayer sorting our problems, in fact, many will probably be impressed by it and believe in it. Its a matter of "faith" after all! (LMAO - well I would, if it wasn't so flippin serious!)

He can fcuk right off and keep his prayers to himself or i'll stick my rosery beads five miles up his hole.

Is there anything to be said for another mass?

Dáil sittings are opened with a prayer.

My word. When one of the chaps with the job of looking after our national affairs says pray, you know we're ****ed.
This must be by far the most farcical use of the word republic in the history of man. It should be called the republic of Ireland and the holy ghost.
I can see why FFail and the church are so joined at the hip. Outdated tradition, you're born into it and each organisation looks after itself first above all others.

I wonder if he will be canvasing at the elections or just pray to get re-elected before going to bed?

Sure if praying will make about €100 Billion debts vanish then getting into a Dail seat must be childs play.

-election strategy he's trying associate himself with religion, most of the fianna fail td's have said something over the last few days to help themselves retain their seat.

The man said that the government was doing all it can, but there are things out of their control and to pray that it all goes well. Then the interviewer asked if he was saying to pray for the economy, and O'Cuiv said that it is a colloquialism.

    Guys, get over yourselves.

Neither being a practising Catholic nor using colloquialisms is a bad thing.

    This is a non-story.

What has this got to do with catholicism? all he said was pray, it's not only catholics that pray
