I had braces a few years ago and the two main problem teeth slowly but surely move back into place. I wear a plastic retainer but no joy,it's an irritation that will be sorted once i get a bit of cash. I've been using toothpaste,mouth wash,swishing salt around just in case and vasaline at night because im a mouth breather but no joy

sounds like you need a good scale/polish and maybe a short course of antibiotics.
