Munster club junior hurling championship

The 2 semi finals of the Munster club junior hurling championship take place today with Meelin (Cork) v Effin (Limerick) and St Patricks (Tipperary) v Ballydurn (Waterford).

I'll be going to Kilmallock myself to see Meelin in action against an Effin team highly rated by some of my work colleagues in Limerick and I reckon we could be in for a cracker of a game here. A lot of the talk is whoever wins this game will win Munster. Don't know anything about St Patricks or Ballydurn, any information about them will be welcomed.

Yeah I heard they were good, but to be fair the standard of hurling produced this year by Meelin should be more than enough to win through to a final and a munster win!
If they don't reach those standards it would still take a good team to beat them, they really are a very capable team - who could go all the way, time will tell.

Not much to fear from effin I reckon.they lost 2 finals since 2007 i think before they won this year.they have had a soft enough route because they are in a weaker south division.they play the likes of kilmallocks second team whereas the west limerick division has 8 first teams.they have been junior for as long as I can remember in limerick and that alone kind of shows a weakness in them.am i right in saying that all the divisions in cork are of a west limerick standard.

i would fancy meelin mainly because they had some tough games in cork and this might prepare them better for the november games.

disgraceful though your not watching the grand slam I have to say.

Lads this Effin team didn't win the county final last year because they were up against an almighty Blackrock team that swept all before them to win the all Ireland last year. The West Limerick division although competitive isn't of a very high standard. I reckon Effin have a right good chance but then again I don't know about Meelin so I reckon it could be a great game.

Meelin won well, by eight points or so.

St Patricks of Drangan and Cloneen have Sean Horan (Brother of Camogie player Jill), who is a former Tipp u21 playing for them. Cant get any updates on game so far

Thought they would, although you never know. Glad to see they are keeping the foot on the pedal- they will be hard too beat.

HA HA brilliant shockframe! From hearing the scorelines in the grand slam I didn't miss much!

Effin were a big strong team who were very committed and gave 100% but they were lacking in the skill and fitness department compared to Meelin. IMO Meelin will be 1 of the favourites to win next year's Intermediate championship in Cork, their a brilliant all round team with 15 skilful hurlers. In fairness to Effin they battled hard but were not up to Meelin's standard. The final score was 2-15 to 1-10.

Meelin will play Tipperary representatives St Patricks in the Munster final on December 12th after the Tipp team beat Ballydurn 3-12 to 2-12 after extra time. I can't see this Meelin team been beat on today's performance but any Tipp club side has to be given respect.

The Munster club junior hurling final takes place this Sunday December 12th with Meelin taking on St Patricks in Mallow at 2 00pm. By the bookies I was told Meelin are hot favourites and are 1/12 to win the final! Seemingly St Patricks didn't even contest the junior county final in Tipperary?

Meelin cannot be complacent going into this game, any hurling team from Tipperary have to be shown respect. The winners of this game play the British champions the following Sunday however with the long range forecast predicting more freezing weather this could be delayed till the new year.

    Meelin 5-18 St Patrick's 0-9.........ouch!!

Really sorry for the Pats boys and they can be proud of what they achieved in 2010. Hope this will prove a learning curve for them and not a deterrent.

I was at the game. As good as Meelin are St Patricks were totally out of their depth on the day and never raised a gallop. I'm sure their better than their display today but every neutral at the game felt sorry for them because it was embarrassing for them!

As for Meelin they travel to Birmingham in the new year to play the British champions and based on today's display this should be another victory for them.

I would like to also wish Meelin and Ballymartle the best of luck in their respective All Ireland series

Thanks Tipp_Gunner; I'm from Meelin;I can finally say it with pride!Nah, not really, I've always been proud to be from Meelin but this team have really done the parish proud. Now a lot more people actually know where Meelin is 'cause these fellas have put us on the map.
The Munster and AI series are great in that respect, they give the locality great pride in the achievements of their team.

As a fellow Duhallow gael it's great to see Meelin doing so well, their a credit to the Duhallow division and the Cork county, hopefully they'll bring All Ireland honours to the village.

Even though you are a Clareman make sure you cheer for Meelin. Clare and Cork have always got on well (most of the time anyway:))

What's the best route to get to the Eire Og GAA grounds coming from Limerick please? Meelin have been a class act the last 12 months and have recorded easy wins in the Munster final and All Ireland quarter final and will be favourites to advance to an All Ireland final.

Bearna/Na Forbacha won the Connacht final last Sunday and have been described as a big physical team so Meelin can expect a much tougher game on Sunday than their previous 2 games I reckon.

Easiest way is to take the first turn off for Ennis (signposted Kilrush, Lahinch also), keep going until you come to a big roundabout with a Maxol Station (just over a bridge, third roundabout) and go right at this roundabout.
Keep going until you pass the West County and go left at the roundabout (the Mecca of Hurling that is St. Flannan's College is just there).
Eire Og is on your right just after the bend.

    Boring google directions :)
    Coonagh Roundabout
    Limerick, Co. Limerick
    1. Head south on Coonagh Roundabout toward Ennis Rd/N7
    120 m
    2. Exit the roundabout onto Ennis Rd/N18 heading to Gaillimh/Galway/N19/Sionainne/Shannon
    28.1 km
    3. Take the N85 exit toward Inis/Ennis/Inis Diomáin/Ennistimon
    350 m
    4. At the roundabout, take the 1st exit onto N85 heading to Inis/Ennis/Inis Diomáin/Ennistimon/N68/Cill Rois/Kilrush
    2.5 km
    5. At the roundabout, take the 3rd exit onto Limerick Rd/R458
    1.1 km
    6. At the roundabout, take the 1st exit onto College View
    300 m
    7. Continue onto St Flannans Dr
    550 m
    8. Keep right at the fork

    Tá fáilte romhat.

There's some nice restaurants for Sunday lunch in Bunratty which is on your way. Also, there won't be much parking in Eire Óg but there's a shopping area across the road (big Curley's furniture sign) you might as well park there it's just across the road.

I'm from Barna myself so I'll be going. A chance to play in Croker is on the line.

It certainly is. Don't know anything about the Barna outfit- but Meelin are really a class act and I would be very surprised if they not only win but go on and win the final.
It is Junior hurling in January though -a bit of a leveller!

If I've learnt anything from Junior hurling its to never expect anything until it winds up on the front page of The Star :pac:

Barna are a decent team but the fact we only just about won Connacht does not look like a good omen.
