Just wondering why do so many "fans" boo Matt Hughes? Anytime I see him fighting or weighing in he always gets a good share of hecklers.

He seems like a good humble guy to me. Never really speaks ill of anyone. Did he do something back in the day that I should be aware of?

I would cheer for him over BJ anyday. BJ lately seems completely full of himself. Nothing wrong with a little confidence in himself but c'mon.

:S BJ's full of himself as at one stage he wasnt beaten at lightweight for 6 years.

He did not give the best impression of himself on TUF and in his book.

Yeah the book was ridiculous. Why anyone would be proud of that stuff is beyond me.

Some of these guys should really have their books either heavily edited or ghost-written. It wasn't just Matt either. Tito and Randy boasted about their various affairs in their books and Chuck revealed himself as a major man whore [though atleast he wasn't married or in serious relationships when he doing that]

Granted but it's just a little too much for me. If he keeps winning in the same style as last night it would be fitting but the last few fights previous I think he had come to believe his own hype.

He did not give the best impression of himself on TUF and in his book.

    Must check it out, thanks.

Yeah, if you watch TUF you'd really get an idea of why he isnt liked in all quarters.

(I never got around to buying his book. Before I did, everyone told me it was muck so i never read it.... would it be worth buying?)

Matt Hughes has a somewhat similar personality to Koschek in that they are both bullies.

Haven't read the book, but found this ages ago......and would kinda put me off buying it.

Pretty much my reaction as well :D, like to read the book itself but wouldn't want to put any money in his pocket by buying it!

Well, we know there's one chapter Hughes can't write as he doesn't remember it................

I respect Hughes, he is a hard worker, a skilled combatant and seemingly honest enough. However, his honesty also brings out a lot of menace and a dislikeable side to his personality in that he is a bully who can be very blunt and unforgiving with people.

How people can dislike Hughes as a person, I can very much understand.

How people can disrespect him as a fighter, I don't understand.

Never heard him mention it once!

Is it something he used to do but has toned it down?

If even a tenth of that stuff is true he is seriously f-ed up :mad:

I read his book, and the most disturbing bit was his description of having sex with his wife shortly after she had her boobs done, and the wounds on her boobs bled on him during sex!

Main reason that I know of that most people dislike him is that 9 out of 10 times, he has been known to be an arse to fans. Never met him myself but the vast majority of those I've spoken to said that he wasn't just dismissive, like any fighter can be if caught at a bad time, but very rude.

Wow, yeah that book could have something to do with it. What a rapscallious tomfool...

Check out the season of TUF he coached Vs matt Serra.

He makes his fighters do Bible Study!! At one point he asks them to read a story and "tell me which character I am from the story".
    ........ he's The Queen!

    Lads,

I know Hughes is a divisive character, but I'm blue in the face at this stage with the reminders on fighter bashing. Some common sense please.

Noted, apologies. I will opt for less colourful language in future. Rapscallion or some-such would've been more appropriate.

Wow i actually didn't know any of that, he sounds like a horrible individual indeed, and quite cruel minded and disturbed also.

I read somewhere that Sean McCorkle (former internet troll and now UFC heavyweight) wrote that review. Interesting if that's true

The book really sounds like a shocking read.

The first review is a little biased in that it uses emotinally charged language. There is a more objective review a few pages after. However, it does not dispute any of the more weird or disgusting passages as described in the first review, nor does it attempt to defend hughes in any real way.

I thought perhaps he was trying to cast himself as jerk before he was redeemed by God or something, but even after his conversion he still seems to carry on the same.

Edit: Just looked at his wiki page here: Matt Hughes
It's locked which I suppose says something in itself.
Looked at his photo. I always thought his shirt said "Army of One". It actually says "Army of the One", along with a bible quote.

Interesting, i've never noticed that before. I thought it was "Army of One" as well.

#I wonder did he change that after his "conversion"?

    The "The" is very small.

methinks he's trying to subliminally religicise us!

I know, I have that shirt, although in plain grey not camoflage.

There's another quote on the back, 1 Timothy 1, 13.
Even though I was once a blasphemer and a persecutor and a violent man, I was shown mercy because I acted in ignorance and unbelief.

I am a fan of Hughes. I could give a **** less about his actions outside the octagon. It's his actions in the octagon that got me following the UFC and becoming a fan. But that review did shock me. I knew he had some skeletons in his closet, such as cheating but some of that is

Matt Hughes win or lose has exciting fights, the Almeida fight was great so was the Thiago Alves fight, at one stage Hughes was a big douche but I think GSP and others have kind of humbled him a bit

Oh yeah, completely agreed, whether he's a clown outside the Octagon or no, UFC legends don't come much bigger than Hughes! I remember i used to get excited to see each of his fights in his hay-day. The man was a monster.

I know a lot of people say Chuck looked indistructable when he was at his best, but for my money, Hughes was THE most dominant Champion i'd ever seen!

Also, i don't think he's "past it" or anything like a lot of others do, i just think the game has changed and kinda passed him by. He's probably very close to the fighter he was back in the day.
