    What is the "XFactor" which makes the X-factor the massive phenomenon which it is today?

    Honestly, talent shows have been around from the advent of tv and beyond. What is it that makes this particular show so big, almost millenium defining. I just can't put my finger on it.

    it does not require any thinking and the candidates are very 'normal' people, in other words semi literate.
