I am having some trouble with a new HTPC setup and wondering if anyone can help. I have a video card with VGA, DVI and S-video output. Since my TV is an old tube TV it only takes in composite and SCART. I bought this S-Video to SCART converter but the resulting image on the TV is absolutely rubbish! The colours are all washed out and everything bleeds into everything else. Also, there is a lot of RGB noise. Is this the best S-video can do?

S-Video is better than composite so the problem is not s-video directly. When you say convertor, I assume its just matching the pins up rather than converting anything as SCART has the pins for s-video.

What resolution have you got your PC set to? It should be 720x576 interlaced 50Hz.

have you tried another source into the converter to see if it is causing the problems and not the pc? these cheap converters are usually a load of rubbish

I am just using a passive converter that matches up the pins. http://www.dabs.ie/products/belkin-scart-adapter-3xrca-s-video-5DYW.html

And I have never tried any other source. So you may be right and the converter is rubbish. I'm going to try the S-video output of my Sky box directly to see if there is a degradation there as well.

WMC 7 automatically sets the resolution so I think it is 720x576 but I'll check that as well.
    Thanks for the replies.
