blackopsmp.exe stopped working! why!!

This isn't probably the first time this has been discussed but I have been playin blackops online since it came out without a bother. As of today I get to play for a while until everything stalls and it shuts down with the message "blackopsmp.exe has stopped workin"
Any ideas what to do would be appreciated.

Sorry Prem but the only advice I have is to wait for a patch to fix this problem.

Mine constantly crashes/freezes in the loading server menu for about 3 minutes. Then when I click to join a game it can crash/freeze for a futher 3 minutes:mad:

It was really bad this evening, I had to give up:(
I mostly hit ctrl+alt+del and close the cod program from there. Plus its usually eating up over 700,000k of memory when it crashes. I have tried updating drivers but no joy so far.

I have a,

Quad core Q6600 2.4GHz
4 Gig ram
ATI HD 4800 series
Windows Vista 64bit version
DirectX11

A general answer, but you could try verifying the cache integrity. Right click the entry in the Steam library, abnd choose properties. On the local files tab, there's an option to verify the stored files.

verified the cache and everything seemed to be fine there, but still same old prob when I was playing.
I was the the same all day yesterday ctrl/alt/del, will just have to be patient and wait for a patch I suppose! I know reading what other people are saying there are plenty of problems, this is the first I encountered. Thanks for the suggestions. Was playing dead ops arcade when I eventually gave up on ctrl/alt/del, good craic as hidden games go.

I have read some suggestions to uninstall and then reinstall the game. If I do this will I lose all the info and points and so on in the multiplayer mode

It shouldn't, Black Ops uses the Steam Cloud to save your character state.

update your DirectX 9 install to the latest runtime:

DX11 isn't relevant, it's a DX9 game.

I done the above but still screwed. At this stage im considering wiping my vista OS and buying windows 7 just so I can have a clean start:(

That's needless, I run it fine on Vista 64.

Are you using the AMD AI overclocking option? Try turning it off.

I wasn't using the AI overclocking function and it still freezes. I did try to overclock afterwords and it still froze. It seems to freeze when I first log on and it searches for servers. Or if a friend invites me to zombie mode or multiplayer, when i click ''accept invite'' it freezes then. If im lucky it will freeze for about 3 minutes and then let me join a game. I find once it lets me join a game it has no problem refreshing the servers again and again. I can usually get about 4 or 5 rounds (maps) in before it freezes again.

The most frustrating thing is it doesn't give me an error message or code. At least then I could have something to work off.

Then it's reproducible, that's curious. Are you using a local firewall?

I use windows defender and kaspersky. Not sure what you mean by ''local''. I did try and disable kaspersky but it still froze.

well, its been nearly two weeks at this stage and still havin the same problem. It seems to freeze for a few seconds on the server screen, then the list of servers starts to refresh. Get to play a game for a few mins and all freezes for good this time! Maybe there is a solution out there, startin to get fed up of this game, any ideas or solutions welcome!

Just wondering if anyone has a fix for the orignal issue. When I first start up black ops, the server browser can freeze from anywhere from 15 seconds to 3 minutes ( 99% of the time its 3 mins )

There is some info on it http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1732503 but I cant find any solutions so far.

It would be handy to know if its an issue with Steam, my PC, Modem, anti-virus?

I had an issue where it took 10 seconds to get the browser going, I set Avast to 'Game mode' and had no problem then

I use Kersparsky. I wonder if its causing the freeze on the browser menu. Ill have a look and tweak some options.
