if you have never had contact with this fella before, or met him in real life. tell him to go fly, he could easily acess your PC and take personal info off it

    It's a con.

How does a bloke on the other end of a phone know how your PC is performing?

It's a con to get you to part with money for fixing something which was never broken and steal your credit card info or to download a piece of malware which could do all sorts of nasty things. If you logged into logmein means he very possibly has uploaded something nasty to your machine.

You are strongly advised to read the "I think I have a virus" - Please Read & Try BEFORE Posting (Updated 12/02/2010) sticky in the Virus and Malware forum and carry out as many of the instructions in that thread, then post the relevant logs there in a new thread. Someone will be along to help but only once you do those tasks.

Anyone gone all the way and got them to install anything on their machine?

Been ringing me this morning and was thinking of letting them have their way with a virtual machine.

    Anyone with views on this?

    Shane

ABeen ringing me this morning and was thinking of letting them have their way with a virtual machine.

Definitely give it a go. At least then you could save the VM and work out the best way to undo whatever it is they're doing to the computers and then post it here so others can benefit.

    I look forward to this.
I would love these guys to ring me.

my non tech savvy sister was phoned yesterday - they have to ring back on Monday - i'd love to be there. Obviously she's been instructed not to allow anything to be d/l or part with any info/money
wasting their time seems like a good idea or perhaps a DOS attack on their remote server seems like even better. ;)
Perhaps it should be reported to the law? would they do anything about it?

    :)

Ok i was going to start a thread on this myself... and ask about free antivirus software.

Ah this happened to me this afternoon, guy rang up said he was with our anti-virus blah blah blah 'routine checks'... yak yak yak...

told me to go into my computer, did some things there... after a while he asked about it i told him he said 'yea you have a lot of errors and stuff'.

Then Went into Run 'can we log in?', i said 'yea' and I let the guy log in (logmein123.com) and put in a password and ... let him do some things to computer. I did get a land when the mouse began moving all by itself, and although nothing seems different he wanted subsbscription for 1- 6 yrs antivirus protection... my comp was in 'danger hard disc failure..' yak yak yak.. 'we'll take care of everything.' yak yak yak... and it all sounded more dodgy as it went on. It doesn't appear that anything bad has happened.. yet.

But he did install something which i am worried about now (see below). Also they transferred me about 3 times.. which i guess made it feel more professional.

Still it did sound kinda legit in the way he gave me a number to ring (01 4880689) and his name 'steve' (ok, i know, 'steve', and with an indian accent) and he was talking a lot an seemed very calm like he was going through the motions, like a job really. When the possibility of payment was brought up-- by him-- he said they'd post a bank transfer to the house. Then he want on about Irish laws and how he was being recorded and if anything illegal was happening he would lose his job and might go to jail and when i asked the name of the company he said 'virtual doctor pc', which now sounds fake. :o

I don't know I wish i could listen to it again. I am a bit sick at the minute. It all sounded routine they way a bank might read out the rights over the phone etc. ' whe have to inform you...' you know it didn't seem ILLEGAL (though it did seem a bit dodgy, kinda like phonejacker), essentially just a company trying to make money. But pressure to buy without being fierce.

Below is the Virtual PC doctor report of what happened:

Is everything Ok? ?Have I done something awful? needless to say i'm not tech savvy i just was taken off guard as i am a bit sick (as you can tell i'd say from this muddle).

Any one got an opinion for me on this? I know this post could have been 5 times shorter!

You have definitely been screwed over. You now have lots of nasty stuff working on your computer.

    Read this properly

    1. Read the "I think I have a virus" - Please Read & Try BEFORE Posting (Updated 12/02/2010) sticky in the Virus and Malware forum.

    2. Carry out as many of the instructions in that thread as you can.

    3. Then post the relevant logs or any other relevant info, in a new thread in that forum.

Someone will be along to help but only once you do those tasks.

A friend of mine nearly gave in to this scam. The problem is I'm not sure if they downloaded anything on to her PC. Any advise how to tell if they did download anything. And does anyone know is there anywhere this can be reported(both the scam and the website they use)?

    Hi there,

Grrrrrrrrrrr...... I've just been phoned by these scammers. They have phoned my Mam several times over the last month or so. Where can we report the number and details?

    Thanks,

    Z.

The number means nothing. It is a faked VOIP number.

They operate from abroad so there is nothing the guards can do about it.

Unless you have actually had money taken off you there is nothing to try and trace.

    Best advice, just be careful.

    Thanks Shane,

When I said I had to leave and asked for a contact number where I could phone them back they eventually gave me an Irish contact number - and a name. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr........... so annoying.

The Irish Contact number would still be a VOIP number. You can get a Dublin number on Skype that you can answer anywhere in the world.

Would be nice to get them but best we can do is take up their time so that their business becomes unprofitable.
