Sounds like you are using 2 different version of Microsoft office.
Prob Vista is 2007 and Xp is 2003.
The best idea would be Make documents in Vista then Paste into Notes (text format) and paste it back into Xp.
You might need to do some formatting again.

Or use open office (Open source and free).

you can also save in the 2003 format using office 2007 just goto file>save as and select what format you would like to save in from the dropdown list if you want full compatability I reccomend the "Rich Text File" Format but that will not work for pictures at all

if your using powerpoint (.ppt) you can use the "pack and go" operation...

Now this is designed so you can create a .ppt file on your computer and also use it on any other pc in the world...

    hope this helps..
