No-one talking about the new EPG improvements?

I have the black DVR box and just noticed yesterday that on the mini-EPG I can now scroll down to see what's on a channel for the entire day rather than the now and next that used to only be available.

Also now there is a line on the progress bar to show where you currently are in the programme and the blue bar represents how far back or ahead you can scroll.

Oddly, the box we have downstairs (silver DVR) does not yet have these features
Apologies if this has been mentioned already.

Only new thing I noticed was a warning that comes up a la Sky to say your system is about to go on standby & to press OK to continue.

and most relate to the hd box

Well, well, well !!! Just watching France v Pumas on ESPN and flicked the up/down keys on the remote and Hey Presto! it showed what was on for the remainder of the night:) I note it also shows, at the same time, which channel is recording. Better than Sly now:D

It also puts a 'watched' symbol beside programs you've watched in your DVR. While these improvements are welcome, they still really have to sort out the lack of HD channels! (and don't get me started about Setanta and MCM)

Really good work both on the old small Pace box and DVR EPG - to be fair UPC seem to be listening and deserve credit. The EPG is superior to Sky IMO

My recorder seems to have gotten extra space added to it. I was down to 5% free space but checking it now it's gone up to 38%. Is it possible the update last week caused this? Or has the update caused some of my recordings to have been deleted, which is the only other explanation I can think of?

Don't get that - watching tv and you press up/down? Doesn't seem to do anything on my HD box.

Did you try to press OK first? :D

Got it but had to restart the box. It was still showing the now & next only.

Must say Ithink the epg is much improved. Nice little additions have made it much more usable.

Now if only we could get some decent HD channels added.

for some reason my parents (small silver Pace) box still has the old purple EPG. Have turned it off and on but still no joy. Does anyone else still have the useless purple EPG or should everyone now be on the blue one?

Mine is stlll purple, but definitely has new features, like you can scroll through the whole night's programmes on the channel menu whereas before it only had the current and next programme. So it's been updated I think - but still purple!

Should I have new EPG improvements on my PACE UPC Mediabox? My current software version reads 3.8.0.095. Thanks in advance of reply.

New software is 4.0.x - Turn off the switch or at the wall and when it restarts it will install

We have to be careful when we talk about the colour of the EPGs now.

Before it was simple, we could refer to the "blue EPG" (UPC), the "purple EPG" (NTL) and the "green EPG" (Chorus).

However, some ex-NTL boxes have recently received new software that rebrands the purple EPG to a blue scheme and introduces the UPC logo where the NTL logo once was. As far as I can see, there are no real changes to the EPG operation (in otherwords, its a purely cosmetic update) but at first glance to the untrained eye it might look like these boxes have the proper UPC EPG, which they don't - it is still the NTL software but with a cosmetic makeover.

I'm not sure what we can do except maybe to refer to the "ex-NTL EPG" and "Mediabox EPG", since they are now both branded UPC.

The purple could always do this, unless they disabled it recently and have since re-enabled.

I don't like that feature. Some times I leave the same channel on for hours

just asking a question for my mum since her epg changed she is no longer able to record two programmes at once is there a way around this? thanks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,237 ✭✭✭✭djimi

As far as I can tell the only way to record two programs at once is to put the box into standby mode. This has always been the case.

You can switch that feature off, or restrict it to happen at night only if you wish. In the "Power Settings" menu.

I'm a bit disappointed, after the last update I lost all my bookmarks (green button) in recorded programs. I can't seem to set new bookmarks either. This was a feature I loved.

I'm still lovin the new EPG. The response times have remained fast after a few months and all the added features have been put to good use. My favorite by far is the ability to scroll down through the now and next bar, to see whats on for the rest of the day on other stations.

    Well done UPC!

I cant understand why my graphics on the menu are still 1980s atari style!
This cant be a TV setting as Xbox and PS3 work perfectly
