iPhone going to sleep and not waking up. Strange problem.

I've had my iPhone 4 for about a month now and have this strange problem with it going to sleep in my pocket and not responding when I take it out. I then have to do a hard reset and it's back to normal until it goes again a while later.

Initially I thought it was a jailbreak related issue, so I started from scratch and it seemed to be okay for a while but the next day the same thing happened again. In hindsight I theorised that it didn't malfunction after I restored it because I was taking it out of my pocket regularly to see if it was still working.

Then I had a few days off from work and didn't have it happen to me once which made me think it was an environmental factor around work.

Where I work, we have a lot of new carpet and I'm constantly getting electric shocks from lifts and stair bannisters, so there is a very big build up of static static electricity.

The iPhone has a gel cover but the screen is always faced in towards me so I wouldn't crack it should I walk into the corner of a desk or what have you. The lining in my pockets is very thin, so I'd imagine there's a possibility of my leg being conductive for the screen.

We also have an O2 mast on top of our building, could the interference from this be overloading the phone somehow?

I'd have ordinarily just returned the phone for a new one but this problem only occurs when I'm in work and when it's in my pocket i.e. it's fine in my pocket anywhere else!

Anyone have any idea of what could be causing this?
