    Hi,
Looking for a bit of advice on a problem I have with my car.
It's a rover 25 2000 model and yest when I started it each time the car was jumpy, revv indicator was jumping up and down and it would jump from v v slow to erratic fast.
Never happened before, coolant has enough fluid and now warning lights.
Engine also takes ages to heat up and never got warmed up properly on any journey yesterday.
    Any ideas?

Could be an ignition problem, when did you last change the plugs? HT leads might need replacing. Or the timing could be out.

    Which warning lights are lit?

Sorry that was a miss spell I meant to say no warning lights.
Could it be the spark plugs as I have not changed them in 2 yrs?

Not familiar with Rovers but I had similar symptoms with a Volvo a few years ago. Turned out to be a valve in the air intake system that had either got some dirt in it or was worn. Replaced and problem was solved.

If the revs fluctuate when the car is sitting in neutral and you are not touching the throttle then this is where I would look first.

Sounds to me like the coolant temperature sensor, some of the k series engines have only one and some have two (one for the gauge and one for the ECU). Symptoms are

    - reading a cold temperature all the time.
    - high fuel consumption
    - rough running
    - bad starting when hot
    - black smoke when hot. High idle speed

As your gauge has still indicated cold along with the rough running from cold It would appear your particular model has just the one CTS :)

The brown plug at the front of the coolant rail is the dude you are looking for.

If it's not the CTS it could be one of the following

    -faulty oxygen sensor
    - fuel pressure too high, check for kinked return hoses etc.
    - leaking injectors.
    - faulty ECU

CTS is the best place to start, I reckon that's the issue, it won't through a warning light either. A quick peak at the plugs should show if they're ok or not before you replace the CTS, the gauge reading cold though points strongly to CTS, the K series gets up to temp quite quickly :)

Chronically sh1t thread title too OP by the way.
