I have a dell 1720 inspiron laptop, lately I have noticed it's very slow in loading in terms of loading the desktop, when I turn on the laptop it goes through the normal loading, but then I get a grey blank screen for a few minutes before it loads to the desk top, why is this ?

    click Start, then Run

    open: msconfig -6

a dialogbox will appear on the startup tab, this lists all of the programs that begin to run when windows loads. Give a look through that and turn off the ones you don't want or use all the time. If you're not sure about what a certain program does, google it before just turning it off, could be important! One of them could be the program that allows you to use the touchpad mouse for example.

You could try a defragmentation and delete some unused programs.
