In my opinion ,The self employed tradesman will still have the same overheads as he always had, so why should the rate change?, would it be because there is not the same ammount of work available? People will have to realise the ammount of money they give a tradesman doesnt go straight into their back pocket, they still have vans to run ,insurance and tax, liability insurance, tools, pension , holiday pay, and wear and tear of their body if they are on their knees all day. Try deducting all these and see what you have left for wages , in the celtic tiger it was the Developerers and speculators that seemed to be making the big money, the tredesman got a few bob extra too but he put in the hours for it ,if you were in a factory on overtime you would get extra too.

25 euro an hour. Most genuine plumbers spent enough time as apprentices bursting themselves for next to nothing. So our entitlement to a decent wage now is well deserved. I'm only 26 and my right knee is fooked!

i would never dispute your dedication but these is no way in this world i would give you work at 400 a day.

I use to pay plumbers 800 euro to strip out and install full bathrooms.

This took 4 days though they done 2 at a time.

Mod note... I leave this message here to show my humility and of course my stupidity... Even i (the great one) am not perfect.

200 euro a day is about right.

Should that not be €200 per day? And like everyone else should that rate not be reduced, bearing in mind the times we are now living in???

AARRGH, Joey your Edit beat me to it:)

Is that 25 including VAT? If it is you are not getting a lot out of it after over heads.
I wonder why people think that plumbers charge too much. Are they not getting a professional service after all.

What in your opinion is a good rate johnnie... Its is not the professional service its market conditions..

For example it would be fair to pay a plumber 200 euro an hour but a lot of people are on 220 euro a week....

€35 plus joey is my rate but to be honest I've rarely used it because I'm giving prices for jobs more now and they all vary. I'm out on my own since Jan and I came to that figure from a norm from asking loads of other lads I know that run there own company's. I do a lot of service work so that's fixed so hourly rate doesn't come into it.

I only get paid for about 60% of my work as most Irish people either don't want to pay or will see me next week:rolleyes: I'm sick of it to be honest. SO when I do get the chance I charge well. I have to live to. To all those that think tradesmen are cleaning up:rolleyes: it's by no means true at all. I can hardly tax my van. Most good plumbers will get a serious amount of work done in 2 or 3 hours. So 75 euro aint bad. If it's a bigger job then a contract is the way to go. Come on fellow plumbers back me up!

What was included in them strip-outs? Just curious mate as 800 yo yos for stripping a bathroom and doing a refit is serious money. Could be done in under 2 days so thats the 400 a day. I have worked with many different plumbers and pipefitters and welders and there is some lads that can just eat work and others that scratch all day. So people can pay a scratcher 10 euro an hour and have him there for eternity or get a proper plumber and just get it done whether by the hour or contract is the customers choice. Sorry for ramble:)
