    Hi all,
I own two Rover 200's (fool me once..yea i know), I owned one and loved it but the compression in the engine went low and the car was unreliable. I urgently needed a car that worked and cost ~500euro i.e. (im a poor student)... so i bought another Rover..
My new rover is a bit of a wreck compared to my other lovely one...i'd love to have the engines switched..
    here's the question:
can i switch a 1.4 engine into a 1.1 model Rover 200? is it a good idea? and how much would it cost?

Thanks a million for any responses !

ya would need to switch a lot of stuff, engine/gearbox for a start, ecu and possibly loom, brakes, maybe the master cylinder aswell

is it still possible to change all that? and how much might it cost?

    hence my expression.

What exactly is wrong with the second one? Is it the condition or the suspension or...? You'd be suprised at how much you can change yourself within a weekend.

I'd go with that, changed a few engines in my time, if you have the tools

and time, not the biggest job in the world. The only thing i'd be worry

about in your case is, there might be a few differences between the 1.1

and 1.4 engines. Ask a local mechanic if your unsure about doing it

    yourself.

Id imagine the wiring loom would need a complete overhaul, ditto to the ecu.

not a job for the novice and not cheap to get done by anyone

best bet is go to a dedicated rover forum and ask

If you were going from a 1.1 to 2.0 I'd say it's worth it, but a 1.4... more hassle than it's worth tbh.

Sell both and buy something that is reliable then in a year or 2 buy a rover again.

its easy enough actually, me and my cousin did it a while ago with a civic, think it was a 1.5 lsi and we put a vti engine into it
the loom only had to be changed back a little further than the ecu

It would be easier to change the interiors then the engines, anyone who can use a spanner will be easily able to do this. You wouldn't need any special tools or hoists.

You wouldn't need to get the car inspected and certified after an interior swap.

    hi again everyone,

thanks for all the replies, there is some variety in the responses, some say it can be done some say it cant or its too difficult..
i wouldnt be doing it myself, id get a mechanic to do it, would i need to get the car certified or something afterwards...to be honest i thought maybe i'd have the 1.4 and pay tax for the 1.1 sure who's to know...nct i'd be f*cked tho eh..
