    Hi

I bought a tv in currys two weeks ago, and asked for a tv which would be saorview compatible and was recommended a samsung tv. Today i decided to try get this up and running and discovered i was sold a freeview compatible tv and not a saorview compatible tv. so basically im left with a tv which i bought for this sole function, and now it wont work because somebody mislead me, which has left me really annoyed. Do you reckon there could be any comeback on this, either an exchange for a new tv with saorview, or a refund, because what they may be calling digital tv compatible could just be freeview compatible

If it's FreeviewHD it should be OK. If it's just freeview it's useless bring it back.

    What model is it ?

Folks, there must be a 1000 posts in this forum advising people NOT TO BUY FREEVIEW TVS as they are INCOMPATIBLE with Saorview. Do your homework before buying.

there was no freeview stickers on the box or on the tv itself which i would of recognised instantly, i initially looked at the tv in power city and it was more expensive and went into currys near by and seen the same tv as power city and asked was it definately irish digital tv compatible and i was told that it was, so of course i went for the option of the cheaper price

Is it this one :- http://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-LE26C450E1WXZF-SAMSUNG-LE26C450-Television/dp/B003D4WATE

If so it's got an mpeg4 tuner, are you sure it's not a signal issue ?

    according to manual here:
    http://www.samsung.com/ie/consumer/tv-audio-video/television/lcd-tv/LE26C450E1WXXU/index.idx?pagetype=prd_detail&tab=support

the 26450 base model has a mpeg4 tuner. Why are you sure it doesn't?

    It's possible the 'e1w' is a non mpeg4 version I guess..

Do you have analogue reception at all ? Is the aerial a set of rabbit ears or an outdoor aerial ? The TV looks to be mpeg4 so I'd say it's a signal issue.

    its like this

the power city one is a 'LE26C450E1WXXU' and is mpeg4 also. I would be 99% certain your TV is mpeg4.

The Samsung LE26C450 (Series 4) range is MPEG-4/DVB-T.

What is your local transmitter? Do you get all 4 analogue channels? Could you be receiving your analogue TV from one of the non DTT upgraded transmitters?

This from the Samsung Series 4 manual, page 38.
    TV System
Analogue : Depending on your country selection
    Digital : DVB-T/DVB-C

    Colour/video system
    Analogue : PAL, SECAM, NTSC-4.43, NTSC-3.58, PAL60
    Digital : MPEG-2 MP@ML, MPEG-4, H.264/AVC MP@L3, MP@L4.0, HP@L4.0

As above , what is your location. If there is a DDT signal coming from your local transmitter an indoor Aerial may not be good enough to receive depending it on where in the house it's located, it may just need to be re-positioned.

yes i can receive all 4 channels, but there average quality

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,579 ✭✭✭Mr McBoatface

Is there a TV/DTV button on the remote. Some TV's require the DTV to be selected to do the digital scan. If you are getting TV3 or TG4 at all you should get Saorview.

EDIT - What county setting have you selected ?

Someone in Maynooth may provide feedback regarding the DTT signal in the area, is an internal aerial good enough to receive DTT or is an external aerial required?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 397 ✭✭RobTheLad

the country is set to ireland alright, i did a scan on the tv under digital and analogue and it shows up as 4 channels found in analogue and nothing in digital

Ok maybe the singnal isn't good enough ...

On the off chance it's a country setting issue, could you try setting it to Solvenia if it's availible ?

The TV, based on its spec will have no problem receiving Saorview in the Ireland setting, external aerial required in my opinion.

I'm using a Samsung series 6 down the road in Leixlip. Using an external aerial though, had no consistent reception with anything internal.

yeh i think it might be time to by an external aerial, i think b&q do them cheap enough

Interesting you are getting analogue reception but no DTT. Friend has a series 6 samsung, gets DTT but barely any reception on analogue. Unwatchable actually on analogue! He has a rabbits ears on a window sill.

Have you your aerial by a window too? Any chance if the cable is long enough you could try it outside (temporarily!)? Modern double and triple glazed windows (if yours are) have a bad habit of blocking out tv signals due to a metallic based thermal coat on some of these windows.

Actual TV aerial probably needed though, either installed outside or in attic.

The TV would receive the radio channels on DTT if the TV was MPEG2 and not MPEG4. No radio points to no signal.

As Sam points out above, you should at least get the radio channels. If you had signal, you would also get the tv channels in the epg, and you would be able to hear their audio.

Exactly. Sam has summed it up.

Anyway, I have no doubt in my mind that the TV WILL work with Saorview, as long as you're receiving from a DTT transmitter, which seems not to be the case at present.

I don't think there is any problem with Samsungs in Currys, they are careful about name brands. I totally agree with Sam on this one.
