Looking for any help please - I have a new emobile BB dongle, it works fine on one pc, but I have three networked together via wired network (all running XP), I am trying to share the BB connection onto the other two PCs but cant seem to get it to work - has anyone managed to do this on a wired network using ICS in Windows? or have eircom set it up so that only one computer can connect at a time......

The dongle is a HUAWEI E180 stick.

    Any and all help appreciated!

ICS on XP is very very easy to set up but can be very frustrating if you don't get the steps right.

Basically you don't even get to see an ICS option untill you have TWO network connections then you have to set ICS up on the Mobile Broadband connection advanced properties tab.

So install your mobile broadband dongle software then go to Network Connections and create a new Dialup Connection as described near the bottom of the page here. Once that is done right click the new dialup connection in Network Connections choose properties then click on advanced and you should be able to set up the rest with a bit of common sence, but post back if you have any problems. Make your internet connection using the new dialup connection and not the mobile broadband software.

I always set it up so you have to manually make a connection when you need it to save it going online all the time.

Thanks William, great to know it can be done - I have tried a few times and could not get it to work, just to break down the method:

you don't even get to see an ICS option untill you have TWO network connections - no probs - can see the ICS option

install your mobile broadband dongle software - presumably only need to do this on the actual pc where the dongle is connected ?

create a new Dialup Connection as described near the bottom of the page here. - do you mean the small section titled: "Operator-Assisted or Manual Dial Error" ?

    cheers

Sorry trying to do two things at once there...

The section you want from the link is...

If this doesn’t work, you may need to create a manual dial-up connection.

Its in the scroll view box near the bottom the section starts out as...

If you are unable to connect and get an Error 619 message there are a number of things you can try to resolve the problem.

Making the dialup connection is easy enough but you need to add the APN as a AT command it gives the info the end of the section for each windows OS, XP, Vista etc for XP its...

After you’ve done this, go to the Control Panel > Phone and modem > modems. Then select your 3 modem from the list and click on Properties > Advanced. Then add the following into the box:
    at+cgdcont=1,”IP”,”3ireland.ie”

    That about covers it.

You'll see the ICS connection if you have any two network cards so a phone line dialup modem or WiFi adaptor and a LAN card and you'll see the ICS options, but you need to have them on a Network Connection for the Mobile Network Dongle.
