I've seen a number of places advertising 'smart repairs'. What exactly is a smart repair?

I'm going to assume its them plugging in a diagnostic computer in and reading fault codes.

No, as in a bodywork repair. As I understand, a smart repair only fixes a (small) damaged area, as opposed to respraying an entire panel. Anyone have it done?

Does a smart repair blend in well with the existing paintwork around it?

Small to Medium Area Repair Technology.

I think it's used to differentiate from full crash repair services.

The smart repair guys are generally a mobile service. These guys will tell you what they can and cannot do. Smart repairs are generally ideal for bumper marks on the corners etc. I dont think they would tackle a large mark in middle of bonnet for example because that would most likely require a full panel respray. They are generally excellent and are used by everyone from main dealers to private car owners.
If you have a repair to do, they will advise whether it is a runner or else advise you go to a body shop.

Quality's a bit iffy from what i've seen, if you just want something fixed cheaply and quickly they're ok but nothing special. The repairs are done out in the open mostly which can't be good in this climate.
