Problems with external drive

One of my harddrives suddenly slowed down today. Looking at the file in Finder or opening or copying them takes ages. I can't eject the drive, because it says that one or more programs are using the drive.
I used lsof to check which files are in use, but it doesn't show anything.
I shut down and restarted my computer and the same problem still appears
My other external drives are ok.
Does anyone has any idea what could be wrong.
I'm using a 2010 MacBook Pro with Snow Leopard.

I forgot to mention that I'm running NTFS on the drive and it is working fine on another PC under Windows.

It could be bad drivers, or a whole load of other reasons due to the drive being NTFS.

Backup your data if it's not already backed up. The drive could be on the way out and only showing signs of in on OS X
