Any if the contribtions(myself included) talk about fantasy weapons which cannot be obtained in Ireland legally I mean the M79 grenade lanucher for example

What weapons can be obtained legally in Ireland
prior to Z day for Z day

Firearms melee bolt etc.
What should we have in your homes prior to Z day
That can be obtained in Ireland Legally
I think this desevres a thread of its own

done to dunnes and get a Ak-47 in Dublin!!!!

Your option are a shotgun or a riffle. Many guns in Ireland that are legally owned would be for pest control on farms, so wouldn't necessarily need to be all that powerful.

Unfortunately these tools require some serious electrical power which means you'll be tied to a fixed outlet while they last or dragging a generator around with you which means hauling fuel around with it as well.

I'm not to sure how well that would work. It could lose it's effectiveness pretty quick. When a machine is made do something it's not specifically designed to do no matter how robust it seems it can run into unforeseen problems. In the short term it could be very effective but don't depend on it.

A pitch fork or maybe even a good rake would be effective at getting you out of many desperate situations involving small groups of zombies. It won't be lethal enough to kill zombies outright but it will be enough to enable you to unbalance a zombie just outside of arms reach. Zombies older than a few days are likely to have terrible balance so would be easily controlled using a long stick that can hook.

These are things readily available in both cities and the countryside. The best made ones being in the countryside on farms.

I always have a problem with (basicly) hand-to-hand wepons and zombies. If there are a lot of them around you, then you will be swamped and unable to wield an axe / pike / angle-grinder etc. Even a combine harvester will become clogged up with their bodies, and the z's behind the first line will get ya.

So my prefered weapon would be a shotgun. Its range is not as goos as a rifle but its wide spread area of impact means you dont have to be pin point accurate, like you do with a rifle, or bow. So you can blast away at dozens of z's as they shuffle twoards you.

Other option would be some sort of flame weapon . How about the weed buring gas torch from Lidl? Or the ones that roofers use (it has a whole gas cylinder attached!) Maybe petrol bombs would be better (back to range again, and keeping yourself at safe distance)

But of course, you need a backup weapon, as (Murphys Law) things can go wrong (run out of ammo, weapon jams, or they just get too close !) ... so my close range weapon would be a sword or machette (ok, they are not legal, but readily available)

Down to dunnes. Raid the Deodorant aisle then raid the matches and firelighters. Home made Flame throwers!!!!! Only problem is the zombies would still come for you while they were burning.
Suit of armour would be my wepon of choice. You cant win anythin with a good defence but you certainly wont lose anything haha!

This goes back to my point on another thread (So Where Will You Be). The best defence is not to lock yourself into a castle / cellar / suit-of-iron, but to be mobile. The strongest walls will become your tomb, if they get in (and they always do !)

I don't accept resident evil zombies or any other form of horror ghoul, there are zombies that are reanimated dead and everything about those zombies is based in real world physics and fact. The only leap of faith required is that there's a virus/disease that can turn people into zombies. Which is doable in nature but the end results won't turn anyone into a super human.

How does the zombie body generate energy?


The only real "zombie" would be a virus which causes people to go totally insane and turn into cannibalistic killers.
I suppose such a virus is possible in theory. I doubt it would occur naturally thou it would have to be a bio-enginered weapon.

These are very good points.

The brain doesn't work very well, it is starved of oxygen, the body also can't get energy from external sources. The result is the only energy source the body has is itself. Your body is very capable of eating itself so to speak, when you go on a diet you lose weight because your body is converting it's own mass into energy and it will convert everything in your body not just fat. Your organs skin and bones are all fair game when the body is starving.

That's why zombies are slow and stupid, simply because they don't have the energy intake to be any other way. The zombie will sustain itself on it's own tissues for as long as it can but will eventually run out of food to sustain itself.

There are problems involved in doing that. If your counting on getting five people one side and five people the other side and pulling all that strain is still going to go through the limbs of the person holding the person being pulled apart. So the people pulling apart are at just as much risk of taking damage as the one being pulled apart. You will let go long before you get to that limit your body simply won't allow you anywhere near those limits to protect you.

Remember that humans are machines that last for decades it takes seriously strong joints to accomplish that. It would be near impossible for people with the same (or zombies with lower) limitations to rip someone apart, they just couldn't get the hold needed or generate the power needed.
