    Hi all,

Got upgraded a while back to Sky+ HD and still have the old sky box.

LNB is now Quad so all it would take is a big fat drill and some coax & connectors to set up the old box in the kitchen ? If No Card in the old box, am I right in assuming its straight Freeview (UK configuration) ???

    Thanks

    fbp

yes your right there. when you remove the card your epg should just go back to the uk one and you will get all the free sat channels and poss sky news. but you wont be able to record on that box. also you wont get rte or tv3.

Yes, it will work fine for Free satellite channels(not freeview). You will have sky news. FIVE may have to be tuned into other channels though. Interactive etc will work too.

Freeview is a UK DTT service received through an aerial, it's not widely available in Ireland.

You will get free to air satellite channels on a sky box.

It is really worth trying to get the terminology correct because it can lead to confusion and ultimately people buy the wrong products. For example many people buy freeview boxes and TV's thinking they will work with a satellite which they won't.

Freeview = UK DTT service received via an Aerial which is not widely available in Ireland.
Freesat = UK Satellite service with 7 day program guide, available in all parts of Ireland providing you have the correct size dish.
Free To Air Satellite = Just like Freesat expect no 7 day program guide

Sky boxes without a card provide a very similar service to Freesat, the main difference is you can't record and some encrypted channels you can't view remain listed on the program guide.

Excellent post! It puts the facts forward without being condescending, I'll probably cut and paste it for the similar question's that are repeatedly asked every day! :D;)
