call them up and ask for a discount on top of that - you might be lucky, I got one there a few weeks ago for a friend and got 10% knocked off posssibly that model on the sale price.

    Hey OP,

    check out this thread:

Good bit of info about the Hannspree TV.

    Thanks dastardly00,

    Some good info there.
Went into the DID store to see one of these working and of course they don't have any set up.It's got a big frame round it but looks good.
The usb slot had service written on it so i'll have to dig some more and see if it can play movies and pics from usb

Its Mpeg4, so it will work after the switchover in 2012, so thats a plus :D

    I found the manual online.

    http://www.hannspree.com/global/Images/Downloads/SJ-Series/UserManual/SJ-Series_UM_EN_v2.0.pdf

But there's no mention about the usb slot.
Would it be possible that this could only be used for "Service" as in firmware upgrade connection?

... generally a great tv. Works with Saorview [Irish Digital TV].

Automatically added 3e when added a few days ago.

Fully HD, and works well with PC. Blacks aren't fantastic but then I've a pretty excellent 42 philips flat screen so maybe I'm spoilt a bit that way...

    3 HDMI.

Paid 369 for it in Xtravision. Pox :-(

One thing though - the backlight - if you look really closely at brightly lit scenes (particularly white ones) - you can see a kinda grey barring effect at points.

It's so subtle that neither my missus or mother in law (or anyone else) has noticed it and generally it doesn't bother me. Just once I spot something like that it annoys me and if it was my tv I think I'd return it.

THAT SAID, the one on display in the shop didn't seem to have this fault so I dunno.... just if buying have a really close and long detailed look at it - turn up the brightness and contrast to see if you notice it.

The USB port is (for now) just for upgrades etc - won't show JPEGs or Video or anything. There is a vague suggestion that that might be added through a firmware update but nothing on the site so far.

Does the RteNL HD channel show up? As some 'cheaper brands' are able to find SD channels but not the HD ones

    Hi zaphodbeeb,

Thanks for the all the info.
I think I'll stay away from it for now if the usb can not play avi or jpegs.
This would be a big bonus for me. Although it still sounds like a good tv.

    So yeah, no worries there.

    Seems quite a decent price.

I bought a Hanspree 37" a year or two back and got rid of it shortly after, lots of motion blur issues. In my case I figured it was worth spending a bit more for a better set as the faults of the cheaper one would be obvious every time I watched it

That said, there's probably not a lot better at the price.

On a 32" I would not worry too much about 1080p, you're not going to notice much of a difference. The MPEG 4 tuner is a big plus.

Should add that they previously had some offer of signing up for their newsletter to get €25 discount. I did this but never got around to buying anything.

So, for €280 I'm pretty happy. Screen quality itself is great - 1080p content looks beautiful. Contrast is good, colours are good, brightness is good.

The in-built MPEG4 tuner picked up digital stations on my UPC analogue input - I got RTE1/2, TV3, 3E, TG4 and RTE News Now, along with about a dozen audio-only stations. The quality is fantastic, and there's an on-screen EPG (though it seems to be for the current program only). The quality of the non-digital stations isn't quite so good - but the line I have coming in is useless anyway - this TV is certainly doing a better job than the one before.

The real disappointment is the sound. It's really really not good, everything comes out dull, there isn't a crisp sound at all. There's no way I can live with it except plugging in into external speakers - though the TV does have SPDIF out to allow that.

    @ snappieT

    Thanks for the review.
Sorry to hear about the sound issue. Bring it back to the shop if it's really that bad and ask for a refund.

    I found this online today.
