Interference on New TV with Sky/Terrestrial

    Hi Guys,

I recently got a HD Samsung TV for my parents sitting room. Anyway the reception both via sky and terrestrial is pretty poor on it. While it is better when watching sky but if you go anyway close to the screen there are loads of white dots flashing around the screen like interference. Before getting this TV the reception was fine on the old CRT and I have a HD TV set up up stairs working via the same sky dish and the reception on that is fine. DVDs and everything on the TV is fine so its not the TV. Any idea what I could do to get rid of the interference or any idea what could be causing it?

    Cheers

Had the same problem when I changed to a big flat screen years ago with my analog signal. It was attrocious pic compared to the CRT and there was nothing I could do about it. Booster only helped somewhat.

If you've moved the power cables a bit and they're now running close to the tv signal cables this would have a negative effect and moving them around should alleviate the problem a little but not entirely.

cheers for the reply. I did put all the cables into a cable tidy so there are alot of wires running along side each other. I'll try separating out a bit.

Are you using any mains blocks with a red light on them?

How is the TV connected to the SKY box? If it's a standard definition SKY or SKY+ box, then it should be via SCART lead with the SKY box set to RGB., otherwise via HDMI cable if it's a HD SKY+ box. When you say that you have another TV connected to the same dish, I assume that you have a separate SKY or FTA box connected to it? Reception problems usually result in pixellated pictures (lots of coloured blocks on screen) or no reception at all. As per the other posters I would look to the local connection between the TV and the SKY box first.

Yeah I have a separate sky box up stairs and they are both standard sky+ boxes. I have it connected via scart and set to RGB. Do you think a better scart cable would make a difference? Like you said its a pixelated effect from the interference. I'll definately mess around with the connections and get back you.

    Thanks
