What is the formats of company numbers in Ireland?

I have a number of a company but there is a query as to if it's a UK or Irish number, someone has claimed it's Irish, but it starts with NL and then a sequence of digits.

The UK numbers have a few prefixes of SC, OC or NI for different types or where they are registered, but as far as I can see Irish company numbers are digits only. Is that correct?

Cheers, still shows up nothing there, but my Dutch isn't up to much so no telling really. I think Googles initial search results is where someone else got the idea it was Irish from as it looks a tad confusing merging multiple lines together.

    Hi,

Would it help to put the number into the company search on the CRO site (link below) to see if it matches the company in question?

    Hi,

It sounds like you have a Vat Number rather than a Company Number , but I am open to correction on this.

An example of what a Vat number looks like in the Netherlands is

    NL123456789B01 ( Total 12 Characters , the 10th always a B )

For the payment of Corporation Tax the NL is dropped.

    Regards

    Aidan
