Please forgive my lack of knowhow
I have a saorview box wp11dtb model. I have tried to record from the box to a sony dvd recorder which has a hard disc, without much success.I have discovered that it is not possible to record a different station other than what you are watching. The box itself is providing a great picture and sound from all stations,it is conneced to TV via hdmi. There is also a scart (rgb)from STB to dvd recorder.I also tried an ariel from STB to recorder with no luck. Can some of the experts on here throw some light on this as it seems to be a step back in having to do without the other stations on SAORVIEW if you want to record a program. Thanks for all the info on here and keep up the great work.

Single tuner boxes are like that, you need a twin tuner if you want to record and watch separately . The output to record is USB but the sony may not 'appear' as a USB disk to the walker.

Maybe a setting on the sony will 'make it' appear on usb so the hard drive is usable by the walker. The usb on the sony may be set to out not in for example.

An Analogue in DVD recorder is a LoFi way to record Digital TV.

You need either a Dual Tuner set-box, ideally with built in HDD, or USB HDD support, or a Dual tuner DTT stick in a PC/Laptop (this one here (TechTír Link) tested last night in Win 7 Media Center, but can use its own application on XP, Vista or Win7).

AFAIK that particular DVD recorder is only Analogue in, I don't think is has a USB client socket to record on disk via USB. It may have a USB host.

You can't connect two USB host sockets.

The RF out on the Walker is only to loop through to TV or other box, no Walker box signal on it like a Sky box has.

There are no reports of the USB on the Walker being able to be used for recording. It may playback pictures or video though. (my now Obsolte DVD recorder USB socket only does playback on its USB host and Firewire connectors, we only use it to play DVDs now)

Walker have 2 models - one is clunky the other slim appearance.

The WP10DTP doesnt have a USB.

The WP11DTP does have a USB port at the back.

From what I can see the 11DTP is based upon the Bush DVB680 (the Freeview HD box) chassis with the digital tuner and remote changed (from a T4800 or dvb 1040ci) and a USB port added.

You should be able to record via USB - as it has a media centre that I just tried - played mp3s straight off. However was not able to get it to record - it did nothing. So I guess it isnt enabled in the firmware. Get onto Walker - its a simple fix - the version of firmware that was on the model I tested was 4.3. Can they enable the PVR facility please is the question.

The chassis is a Bush DVB680 (Vestel)

    Yes.
Though it won't connect to his SCART / RF inputs DVD recorder that way.

    Yes,
Vestel make some Bush products also.

Yep, was testing the WP11 today, and alas, it won't record onto the USB pendrive, even though the remote control does have a record button. Like STB above, it's SW Version 4.3

The old WP10 has a USB port too apparently, from looking at features listed on the box. I didn't take it out of the box to examine it though.

The WP11 seems to work well enough. However, have to say that it looks very tacky, and don't like the remote either - it's a bit plain and not overly userfriendly.

Just like the picnic box. But it does do HD.

You should be able to record directly from the Walker STB to your Sony HDD (I have one of these and an record without problems) via a scart lead. Connect to the VCR socket of the STB to the Sony scart labled "Line 1 Decoder". Turn on both and select "Line 1" with the "Input" button on the Sony remote and hey presto, you should have a picture. You can schedule recordings by using the timers on both machines. It's a solution that works for me until I can afford a T2 recorder that can burn content to disk and or transfer content to USB. Good luck.

Is there series link on these walker boxes?

How do you choose it? does it ask you do you want to record the entire series somehow when you want to record something that is in a series?

Since walker boxes are saorview certified, this is presumably the only official way to know if saorview is doing series link yet.

    Thinking out loud...

Series link is provided or not by the Network? I'm guessing that as it's not a full service there is no series link on any model, except unless programmer has been clever and guessed. But that might record repeats, so I doubt it.

Peddyr, you are correct, I can record from the Walker to the Sony by doing as you say, but the Walker box has to be powered up and not in standby. It does not wake from standby to allow the programme to record. Also the Walker does not see the hdd in the Sony when connected by usb.
